[Review] LAVANILA Natural Deodorant & Fresh Sugar Antiperspirant & Deodorant

Like most, deodorant is a must in my life. I’m paranoid without it. My arms become suddenly glued to my sides like a t-rex in fear someone may notice. And how ballsy are those that don’t wear it, and ahem…should? But back to the main subject. My deodorant. I decided it was time to change things up, and try something new; something “pretty” this time around. Hopefully, I would find something suitable to make a big switch.

I currently use a very boring morning rain aerosol because it pretty much was the only one that worked and didn’t cost so much. I tried out the clinical strength ones and honestly, it does work, but only if I used double the amount of product. And it costs almost twice as much as regular deodorant, so no thanks.

I decided to try two different kinds, a roll on antiperspirant/deodorant from Fresh, and a solid from LaVanila. Both being brands that I think are very nice and have been eyeing for quite sometime. Everytime I’m in Sephora I look at all the Lavanila stuff and everytime I’m in Beauty Collection I stop and look at all the Fresh stuff! For the most part, it’s things out of my normal routine price-range, but for a splurge, why not?!

I got the roll-on a few weeks earlier than the solid so I was able to give that one a full week or so on its own and I totally like it. I love the light lemony scent it has and it dries quickly so it doesn’t feel tacky afterwards. I managed to get through a typical work day without feeling like mid-day I needed another swipe.

The Fresh Sugar Roll-On is an antiperspirant and deodorant which is nice, it prevents wet pits in the office which is gross. The description of the product states that the roll-on has natural botanicals to soothe-skin and deodorize. It’s also formulated without sulfates, synthetic dyes, phthalates, GMOs or triclosan. The sugar line in particular is meant to be the antiseptic and humectant in the line, dating back to old family remedies the owners once used as children.

In visiting the Fresh site, I discovered that the brand explains the story behind each of the main ingredients in their products, such as sake, soy, and umbrian clay. You can see that the owners really pulled ingredients that found in life to be beneficial for both skin and soul.

Whats my one problem with this roll-on? The price? Holy bajeezzus it costs $18.00 before tax. That is alot in my opinion for a deodorant, unless of course I only need to apply it once a week, but give me a break. I’m going to use this daily until it runs out… thats pretty much the end of my relationship with the fresh roll-on. Love it, but not in my real price range darn it. Well, at least I have the sugar lip treatment to still love.

The LAVANILA deodorant took me totally by surprise from the very beginning. For one thing, I could swear that I would of smelled this in the store and remembered that the vanilla coconut scented products……..DON’T actually smell like vanilla coconut??? Whaaaa???? This is coming from a coconut addict. Can you imagine how disappointed I was when I ripped

off the plastic and couldn’t sniff my way to heaven? I have annoyed several a roommate with my vanilla coconut or exotic coconut wallflowers all over the house. The majority of body lotions I get have some form of coconut in them. And I love eating anything flavored coconut. I imagine eating coconut meat right now right outta the shell. yum. I just love it. I need my own palm tree with coconuts one day…but yea, news flash everyone, the vanilla coconut deodorant does not smell like it’s name at all. It smells very nice and light, and botanical-like. I looked at the ingredients—of course it just says botanical fragrance blend as the last item. duh.

This deodorant glides on

for the most part clear, unless you apply when your skin is still damp from the shower, or you over apply creating a whitish cast. One thing I don’t like about this one is the residue it sometimes leaves behind. I guess I over apply? I put my deodorant on in the bathroom when I get ready for work and then go back in the bedroom to change and I’ll notice two spots where it must have hit my underarms and leaves whitish powder behind. It actually wipes away way easier than any “real” deodorant stains, but still. How bout none?

The LAVANILA deodorant did not offer wetness protection so I was a little worried while using it at work, but it seemed to hold up ok for the most part. I do think I would prefer another swipe by 2pm so it would be nice if I had purchased this in a travel size for my bag. I got the giant one. The description of this product says it is clinical strength but what does that mean anyways.

What I did like about this deodorant is that it doesn’t have anything “bad” in it. I don’t always follow everything “healthy” so its nice to know at least one product I am using on a daily basis doesn’t have some risky chemical in it. Instead it uses beta-glucan technology to fight stink while soothing and conditioning my underarms. There is no aluminum, no parabens, or propylene glycol.

Overall I still liked it, it just wasn’t as strong as the fresh roll-on and I didn’t like having to deal with any residue at all. The LAVANILA solid runs for $10 travel size and $18 for the regular size. Ouch, yet another very high priced deodorant for me. Because I don’t have expendable cash for $18 deodorants I will continue to use and love these until they are gone. Do I like one more than the other, I suppose if one has to win over the other it would be Fresh simply because there was no clean up needed. I will look into more options rather than the boring drugstore versions just for fun!

Have you found a “pretty” deodorant that you love? Which one? Share in the comments below!
