As part of my wonderful beauty package that was sent to me fromAustralia, was the Kawaii Tokyo Overnight Repair :for the delicate skin of the eye. The claim? To reduce under eye puffiness in just 15 days by fighting edema (swelling) of the tissue underneath and surrounding the eye. The product is supposed to be used with the rest of the Brighten Up series for best results. While I have just a few of the products from the line, I decided to add it to my night routine for a while and see what it did.
The Overnight Repair Eye Gel is primary made to reduce under eye bag puffiness. But why do our eyes get puffy and congested anyways? Sometimes just sinus swelling, but sometimes it due to poor circulation is the tissues around the eye. Overnight Repair increases circulation in the around the eyes, and repairs sagging of the skin. Skin elasticity increases while smoothing and decongesting the area. Moisturizing properties of the gel are to restore youthfulness around the eye area while brightening at the same time. The entire line of Kawaii Tokyo products are certified Halal(meaning permissible in islamic law, and is free of alcohol or animal-based ingredients), while making use of nano-technology.
The formula uses Lipidure, which is a high-molecular polymer that can help the skin retain twice the amount of water as hyaluronic acid. With just a few dabs in the orbital area of the eye, the skin can take on a dewy appearance, and it’s meant to have lasting effects, even AFTER being washed off.
Eyeserylis a tetrapeptide that specifically fights puffy eye bags by preventing the mechanisms from taking place in the first place.
EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor) restores the skin by enhancing brightness. EGF acts as a cell messenger protein to signal synthesis of the skin matrix, helping aging or damaged skin transform and repair into younger, more youthful skin. EGF is thought to increase collagen synthesis which can increase epidermal thickness thereby strengthening the skin.
And lastly, Arbutin, which directly targets melanin production, preventing the formation of Tyrosinase. Tyrosinase is an enzyme that catalyzes the production of melanin, the pigment in our skin. By reducing the amount of melanin produced the skin can take on a brighter appearance.
That’s a big claim. That’s quite a wonderful miracle if it can actually do all that. So, while I don’t have puffy eyes at all, I figured I could use some brightening in the inner under eye area. And moisturizing is always necessary around the eyes. Let’s give it a shot.
I applied the thin gel nightly before bedtime. There was never any detectable scent which is good because there is no need for fragrances around the eye. The gel absorbs into the skin leaving it almost wet-like until fully absorbed. I focused the gel on the under eye, and the deep wrinkle I get from squinting my eyes.
While I have been using this product daily for the past few weeks, I feel that for brightening properties to show proof, will only happen after longer usage. I do feel that the eye area is more moisturized with daily use; it may have even been the reason I felt like my under eye concealer went on a little smoother. Not sure, but I’m guessing it may have been. It definitely can help in achieving that dewy effect around the eyes, by keeping the skin properly moisturized so it has a healthy sheen to it. Even as I re-test the feel of the gel on the back of my hand right now, it does definitely have an immediate smoothing effect and dries rather quickly if applied in a thin layer.
I will continue to keep the Overnight Repair in my night time routine and see if it helps improve brightening the eye area. Arbutin is used in a lengthy list of products for skin brightening so I’m hopefully it will help to some extent.
