[Review] Hypnotik Hair Anti Frizz Serum

“You can’t control your style if you don’t control your hair”

There was a day when Gina Caruso said No! More! Frizzies! ….it was then that Hypnotik Hair was born. After years of putting up with hair styles that fall flat the minute she stepped outside, Gina decided she would have to go to the books herself and design a hair product that would fight hairs’ natural inclination towards frizz, while restoring luster and shine.

Hynotik’s formula relies heavily on the Neroli Flower, found on the Bitter Orange Tree residing in the Rainforest. Certified Organic Neroli Essential Oil is distilled from fresh picked flowers off the Bitter Orange Tree, and is combined with the ever popular Argan Oil, and lesser known Flaxseed and Acai Oil to create a unique complex only found in the Hypnotik Hair formula.

The Neroli Flower

Neroli Oil, known for its soothing and healing properties, restores and soothes hair and skin and is thought to have aromatherapeutic properties to relieve anxiety and stress.

Argan Oil has been made ridiculously popular since it was introduced to main stream beauty products. Argan Oil (also referred to as Moroccan Oil and liquid gold) hydrates and smooths hair while increasing its elasticity to prevent breakage. Its natural antioxidants work to repair damage from the environment and heat styling. Because Argan Oil has the ability to lock in shine, hair immediately looks super shiny and full of luster.

Flaxseed

Flaxseed Oil contains high levels of Omega 3’s. Omega 3’s are essential for normal hair and skin function and are not produced naturally by the body. What do they do? They help your skin protect itself by increasing our natural skin oils that keep it soft and prevent it from drying out. It is also thought to prevent water loss on hair also, meaning it will lock OUTSIDE moisture out protecting the style you do for the day.

I never knew Acai oil would be used in hair products. When I think of Acai, I think of some glorous creation at a ice cream shop, or a nice hot bowl of oatmeal. However, Acai has some of the highest levels of antioxidants and have been nicknamed a “superfood” for its extraordinary work in fighting the signs of aging or oxidative stress. Acai oil contain substances like Anthocyanins and flavanoids that fight free radicals, while also containing high levels of vitamin C, B1, B2, B3 and minerals known to heal hair and skin. Acai Oil also helps the hair and skin retain moisture and make hair more manageable.

I have tried countless hair serums over the years. Countless. I couldn’t tell you every brand I’ve tried its been that many. Just like Gina, I also needed to find a product that battled frizzies and kept my hair looking smooth and shiny. I’ve had long hair most of my life and there were always two things I was dealing with: wispies and breakage. My hair is of medium thickness but because of it’s length and all the styling I do, I get breakage from typing my hair up into buns and then create these short flyaway hairs that never want to lay flat. It was a huge pain always trying product after product to help my hair gain some strength and not break so much. It was even worse when I used

to bleach my hair and wear pony tails all the time. Oh my god. My hair was like straw at some points, I cringe when I think of what I’ve done to my hair in past years. Let me share a little secret with you. Some of my friends in high school nicknamed me mohawk and you can only guess why. Could it be the fact that by 11th grade I had to clip my hair down on a daily basis because I had so much breakage at one point my hair stood up straight at the part……..like a friggin mohawk!?!? Yup. NO worries, my bleaching days are long past me. I now put a conditioning color gloss on from time to time and thats it

I used the hair serum on and off over the course of

three-four weeks and I have to say that it is on par with, well, most hair serums out there. The hair serum comes out almost gel-thickness at first but a pea-sized bead in the hand spreads into a thin film on the palms before being applied to the hair. I mostly apply the serum to the lower half of my towel-dried hair and not so much the scalp or hair lines as those tend to look greasy if used. After I feel most of the serum transfers to my hair, I run my hands over my entire head once for one last thin layer of shine and then blow dry.

My hair will dry with a random weird kink in it if I don’t dry it with a blow dryer. And underneath it will look wavy for some reason making my hair just naturally look “messy” If I don’t do anything to it, so I usually opt for blowdrying my hair the night before instead of the morning because I like my sleep.

Blow drying time did decrease ever so slightly while using Hypnotik, but I did feel it was on the heavier side of serums for me. I liked the scent as it has a very light orange-ey, spicy smell to it that disappears after blowdrying. Was my hair shiny? Yes. It looked great after a blow dry. Did I feel like it fought frizzies well enough? I’m a little on the fence. I feel like the product does a fine job of getting my hair super shiny but my broken hair wispies still were flying in the wind. I don’t know. Maybe I am expecting too much. But those little suckers are the ones I want gone without cutting or clipping.
