[Review] Crystal Rock Deodorant Body Spray: Did It Work For Me?

If there is one thing we all commonly deal with as men and women, is sweating and dare I say it, odor. Body odor is the product of bacteria fermenting on our skin. Gross, right? It sounds nasty, but bacteria seeks out sweat as their food source on our skin. That’s right folks, your personal house guests are making your body it’s new hang out spot, leaving odor behind as it’s signature calling card.

We all know that there are two ways to deal with sweat: antiperspirant & deodorants. Antiperspirants work by blocking the pores of our sweat glands, therefore reducing wetness producing less odor. Usually antiperspirants rely on aluminum salts to plug pores, which many people find undesirable. Aluminum salts have gotten a bad rap over the years, being listed as a potential neurotoxin, and has being linked to certain types of cancer making it the topic of discussion for years. While some say they are dangerous, and others still say they are OK, it still has left many of us questioning what we should really be using. Then, there are deodorants. Deodorants are used to neutralize or cover odors and is considered a cosmetic—–not a drug (like an antiperspirant) because it doesn’t not change the body’s physiology.

Natural Deodorants such as Crystal’s Rock Deodorant uses mineral salts to neutralize body odors without any of the associated health risks of using aluminum based ingredients. Essentially, the mineral salts work by making the environment for bacteria-unfriendly. The pH of the skin changes and is protected by a barrier of film made by the mineral salts. All natural, and totally healthy. Free of:

Aluminum Chlorohydrate

Aluminum Zirconium

Pthalates

Parabens

All things we can totally do without! It also happens too be a cruelty-free product for all you animal lovers out there! Do you remember those crystals

that looked like actual giant rocks at the super market? That’s THIS brand! They originally developed the deodorant as a crystal you would wet and rub when needed. They have since developed a line of roll-ons, sprays, scented and unscented. But back to my personal review.

listed on the leapingbunny.org site, Crystal is a cruelty-free company!

It’s no lie that I deal with odor myself, but really how many of you don’t? If you don’t–I want to know your secret. I’m not one of those people that can just skip a day and not be ultra paranoid about it. I need it. Unfortunately in my case I feel like any deodorants or antiperspirants I try, stop working after a while. For a long time I used what my boyfriend used, some boring aerosol that worked, but choked me when sprayed in the bathroom. I recently experimented with a few others to see whats out there, and last but not least, was offered an opportunity to try Rock Spray Body Deodorant.

The claim?
24-hour protection using only all natural ingredients. I gladly accepted the chance and chose Cobalt Sky (Sandlewood & Vanilla). I should have chosen unscented considering this was a men’s product, but it sounded so good I couldn’t resist. Vanilla is usually a sure thing for me. There a few choices to choose from: Unscented, Colbalt Sky (Sandlewood & Vanilla), Granite Rain (Bergamot, Citrus & Sage), Onyx Storm (Ho Wood, Cedarwood, and Geranium Bourbon).

I liked that the deodorant came in a pump spray. It wasn’t an aerosol that chokes you and dries pretty quickly. There was never a problem with it staining or becoming visible on clothing either. I found that the deodorant did last longer than anything I have used in the past. Definitely longer, in fact. Maybe I put too much on at first because my boyfriend commented on my “cologne”, but it DID last overnight and well into the next day at work. There are times I would heat up through the day and the sandalwood scent would quietly show up. Nothing overpowering on the second day. I tone it down initially with one quick swipe of my lavanilla deodorant if I’m going somewhere immediately. I’ve actually been wearing it for the past two weeks to work without anyone mentioning my manly scent.

I would definitely give this deodorant a thumbs up in effectiveness. I think my only issue was not choosing the unscented version, however I can imagine this smelling much better on a man than a woman.

You can try Rock Deodorant Body Spray by finding it in a few places online and in stores like Amazon, Duane Reid, Rite Aid, and select Whole Foods Super Markets. And last but not least, their own online storefront. Luckily, it’s also very reasonably priced at $6.99 so you don’t need to worry about budgeting for deodorant. I hate when you fall in love with a product and then have to limit yourself on use because of cost.

If you would like to find out more about the brand, you can check them out on facebook or twitter.
