Mascara Reviews: CoverGirl & Loreal

After noticing that I was WAY past due for new mascara, I set out on a hunt for a new one. One that would wow me since pretty much NO mascara has wowed me in quite sometime.

I had a $50 gift card to Sephora burning in my pocket and I had my eye on one of their holiday mascara sampler sets. I must have looked at it 100 times before finally deciding I wasn’t going to spend $50 on mascara and headed to Target to look for cheaper options.

After looking over some mascara reviews, I was set on trying Maybelline Lash Blast Lengthening or Whatever the brand was that Gwen Stephani was featured in. Ok, of course I cant remember the name of that brand right now, but it’s a completely gold tube…you know what it is. I was set on finding a lengthening mascara, not so much thickening or volumizing. I HATE thick, chunky fake looking lashes. I was disappointed in my Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes Mascara since it was “high-end” in my book and looked terrible on. It’ll probobly just dry up in my makeup drawer.

I ended up with two, Covergirl exacteyelights and Loreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes. Each boasting their own special powers of magically transforming my lashes into something else! Ooh la la!

CG exacteyelights intrigued me when it claimed to be eye brightening mascara for blue eyes specifically. The packaging says that it will bring out the color of my eyes clump-free. I fell in love with this one at first stroke. The brush is awesome. Silicone and slightly flexible, holding enough product but not too much; not to mention really separates my lashes well. The tube also does an excellent job of wiping off the excess mascara before the brush comes out of the wand. Another thing I hated on the Hypnose mascara which had too much product. I love exacteyelights! The formula appears mousse-y to me and looks like it has micro flecks of sparkle (I think its in blue) to “brighten” my eyes. I don’t know if it’s actually doing that, but I do love the color and how it applies. A+ on this one. And under $10 and found at Target. Ding, Ding,Ding,Ding….a winner all around for me.

The Loreal Voluminous had that brush cleaning problem a little. I expect some at the beginning of using a full product, but expect it to die down after a week or so of use. The False Fiber Lashes definitely lengthens my lashes with fibers as you can see some of them significantly change after one or two strokes. The packaging says this mascara will sculpt my lashes with noticeable curl by using fibers to volumized and lengthen. This mascara has definitely gotten a boost from my recent trip to Vanity Cosmetics in Sherman Oaks, CA. I got a lash perm and tint and it REALLY makes your lashes curled! But back to mascara…I just don’t think volumizing mascaras are my thing. I’m thinking I can now say that the CG mascara was my favorite out of the two. I will still use this one, just wont be my daily go to. I do like using fiber enhancing mascaras, but the product comes out too much on the brush and I don’t understand why that isn’t priority #1 or #2 when creating a mascara. If I have to scrape excess product off more than likely I will make a mess of myself trying to put it on. If I had to give the Loreal Voluminous a grade it would be a B because its still a good, long-lasting formula, and it does what it says, I just don’t like too much product and it’s just not for me.

Do you beauties have a lengthening mascara you love? Another mascara I liked was from Mally’s. It had a very full brush that separated my lashes well too when it was wiggled from base to tip. I’d love to try some other brands out there!
