Since it’s summa summa summa time I’ve been getting a bit more sun which means my skin needs more moisturization. I recently picked up Alaffia Everyday Coconut Body lotion at Whole Foods on a whim to give it a try and see if it could be my new love. Guess what? It totally is!
I didn’t realize what a great brand Alaffia was until I got home and googled it to find out more. It’s a lot more than just a skin care brand — it gives back to the community to empower West African communities to better their lives! Just some of the wonderful things it does is improve Maternal health care for women by giving them an opportunity to put their skills to good use in fair-trade projects. Providing comprehensive pre-natal care that isn’t always available and therefore reducing maternal death rates and giving future generations a chance in poverty-stricken areas.
Education is improved by donating used bikes (primary to girls who are more at risk of dropping out of school) to over 40 villages to allow them to have better access to schools and further improve their living situations.
Alaffia also provides funding for schools by donating supplies to poverty-stricken areas of West Africa such as roof tops, benches, and books, pencils, and paper to over 2000 students since 2004.
They also aid in the reforestation projects to restore natural resources to the area, allowing farmers to create supplemental income that helps women provide for their families, while preventing soil erosion, and creating food sources for all. At this time 25,000 trees have been planted with plans to increase the number as the years go on.
Pretty cool, right? Now that you know a little about the brand, let’s get to the lotion!
I’ve been using the Everyday Coconut Body lotion for about a week and love the scent and feel of it. I should also mention that you get a GINORMOUS bottle (32 oz) for about $12.00 at Whole Foods. This bottle is going to last me a long time and I apply it at least twice a day because it feels so good.
Not super thick, and not too thin, the coconut lotion sinks in immediately and has a great scent to it. I wouldn’t describe it at coconut-y, but possibly more coffee berry? Coffee berry extract is the first listed ingredient and looking at the other ingredients I can’t imagine its anything else in there. And its not overpowering and heavily perfumed…just a nice, natural warm scent that dissipates after applying. The ingredients are very simple, Coffee Berry Extract, Coconut Water, Coconut Oil, and Vegetable based waxes to hold it together. No parabens! No synthetics fragrances! And for those of you who need their products to be Vegan and/or Gluten-free,it is.
Did I mention that there is no animal testing either for all Cruelty-free followers out there too?
This feels like the perfect lotion after you feel all dried out from the sun. It just feels good from head to toe. Well, not for the face, but works for my manicures and for full body after the shower. And the big pump top makes it easy to use without having to crack open a pop top with my nails and risk breaking them. I hate that! I could also see myself using this all throughout the winter as well.
P.S no extra greasy-ness after applying so men don’t have to worry about having super shiny legs after using, lol!
I would be interested in trying out their other lotions (there were a couple of options at Whole Foods), and on their website there is a huge selection of facial and body care products to oogle at. Like their Cocoa Butter Intensive Lotion or their Roobios and Shea Antioxidant Facial Toner!
Whats your favorite lotion at the moment?
