Must Have Skin Soothers

It happens to all of us (I think), the weather changes, you experiment with a bunch of new skincare products, you pick at your face, or use a new detergent and your skin goes out of whack. Tight, dry, itchy or red skin is no fun, so I make sure to keep a slew of products the soothe the skin and bring it back to a comfortable state.

Today, I’m sharing seven things that I personally enjoy and use on myself or daughter when problems arise.

Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask – I’ve heard about this mask for years and finally took the plunge on doing an international order to get my hands on it this Summer. I gotta say…it’s totally worth it. Manuka Honey is incredibly healing and moisturizing to the skin. Not only does it help fight acne, but this light and creamy mask also makes my skin feel cool and smooth after using it. I love using this when I get acne flares (or just feel like treating myself to something nice) and will be a continuous repurchase when this tube runs out. Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask uses sustainably sourced New Zealand Manuka Honey, Vinaza grape seed extract which is full of antioxidants, and Pohutukawa that aids in moisturizing the skin.

Verabella Aloe Azulene Soothing Hydro Gel – When my daughter gets a booboo or bug bite I always offer her some of this if it doesn’t require a triple antibiotic first. It also works great for sunburned or skin that is sensitized after too many exfoliating products have been used. Aloe and sodium hyaluronate deeply hydrate the skin while azulene oil (which comes from chamomile) soothes and helps reduce redness and inflammation. A little dab of this stuff makes my daughter happy because she can apply it herself and makes me happy because it can really do no harm. I use this on my face but also like it for my neck, chest and shoulders when needed.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Wild Oat Hydrating Toner – Most toners I try are quite “watery” feeling so this one from First Aid Beauty really stood out with its milky, slightly thicker appearance. This alcohol-free toner is my goto when I overuse glycolics and get red cheeks. The blend of colloidal oatmeal, wild oats, hyaluronic acid, and honey hydrate and soothe the skin while completely getting rid of redness by morning when I use it at night time. I like that I don’t need to use this daily to see and feel the benefits of it and save it for those days when I need some extra TLC. I would imagine that someone who experiences dry skin on the regular would probably enjoy this for daily use. My skin is combo so I can stretch this toner out much longer.

Daily Concepts Facial Roller – If you’ve never used a facial roller you are missing out. If you’ve never used a facial roller than is saved in your freezer you are SERIOUSLY missing out!!! A chilled facial roller helps immensely when morning puffiness occurs. It also helps cool down overheated and stressed skin. It just plain feels good to use! I won’t bother with trying to tell you it presses products into your skin better – maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t. What I do know is that a stone facial roller feels so good on skin that needs extra care. Daily Concepts have a few to choose from like their Obsidian, Opal, Jade, Rose Quartz, and Amethyst versions depending on what you’re looking for. Just a note, be careful taking it or out of the freezer — I broke my first one when I clumsily dropped it on the floor and it smashed to pieces!

Zum Almond Rub – I’ve recently taken up doing dip nails at home and also do a number on my hands in CrossFit. Ripped calluses hurt like the dickens, and snagged cuticles don’t look good when you’ve just done your nails. I’ve tried a few things from Zum before like their bar soaps and laundry soap which I really enjoyed which made me intrigued when I saw they had a salve like rub for the body. Zum Rub melts to the touch and is made with a blend of sunflower oil, grapeseed oil, coconut oil, shea butter, and goat’s milk and softens any dry, rough areas you have on your body.  I move this tin all over the house and use it throughout the day on my lips, nails, elbows, and palms — also, it smells SO GOOD. The almond scent reminds me of marzipan candies I’d get shipped to me from Germany as a kid and I’ve always loved the scent. I hope they expand their rubs into some Christmas-like scents. I’d like to get more!

AnnMarie Skincare Aloe Herb Cleanser – They say you really only need to use water to wash your face in the morning, but I really beg to differ. When I sleep with actives on my face I want them all off my skin before I hit the gym. I’ll never forget seeing my face in the mirror of a gym one time and seeing it was BEET RED because I didn’t wash the stuff off my face. Never again. With that said, I like to use an ultra-gentle cleanser to remove any treatments, along with sweat and dirt from my sleep. AnnMarie Skincare Aloe Herb Cleanser is one of the most gentle cleansers I’ve come across and I fell in love when they sent me a sample bottle back in March. I’ve since graduated to a larger size and enjoy using this cleanser every morning knowing it cleanses my skin and never leaves it tight. If you’ve got a full face of makeup on you may need a double cleanse option to get everything off, but it does wonders for regular cleansing. Aloe vera, calendula, and coconut oil are just part of this creamy lotion-like cleanser and makes my skin feel so soft afterward. Best of all, it’s recommended for ALL skin types!

Pixi Beauty Rose Tonic – A staple for literally every single beauty lovers cabinet. Pixi Beauty Rose Tonic is an alcohol-free rose oil infused toner that hydrates, soothes, and cleanses in one step. I enjoy swiping this one on my face after cleansing to remove any traces of anything left behind, and can even let my little one use it during our “beauty time” together. My skin always feels calm after using it and can be found at my favorite store, Target!

  • Skin soothers is precisely what we all need right now. Between all of the hand-washing and the cooling weather, it is so important right now!

  • Love this list. I need two things on it - the Zum Rub and Verabella. Those sound ideal. I love my roller and even have a tiny one for under my eyes.

  • I love that Antipodes mask! It's so gentle but really does work wonders. I'm definitely going to have to check out a few of the other products you mentioned as well.
