Iris & Romeo: Best Skin Days

I’m excited to write this post because I have coveted this brand for over a year and simply could not afford any splurges at the time. Now, with things more stabilized, I was able to order a skincare-makeup hybrid of sorts that combines a serum, a moisturizer, sheer color coverage, sunscreen, and blue light protection all in one. Say hello to Iris & Romeo Best Skin Days, a 5-in-1 product that has the ability to simplify your beauty routine while still feeling fabulous.

Iris and Romeo aims to be a sustainable brand. They care about their packaging and try to avoid plastic by using glass jars (with recyclable lids), and post-consumer recycled paper for their boxes.   Their products are reef-friendly and formulated only with non-nano sunscreen while also following the stricter EU standards for safer ingredient usage.

When I discovered this product, I thought it sounded so perfect for me. It had sun protection and could even out my skin while moisturizing it. It could use a higher SPF (it currently offers SPF 25), but I can layer something underneath if I choose. You guys know I love something with a dewy finish so if this one product could do all that for me in one step I would be very excited.

I ordered their sample size (thank god brands do this) so that I could really test out the shade and also see if I was willing to splurge on the full-sized item next. Better Skin Days comes in six shades that I found fairly easy to find a shade match. Their website includes large photos of the actual product as well as women who fit the shade range. The product comes as a thick whipped cream of sorts, best applied by fingers.

Let’s take a look at the skincare aspect of this product. It uses sodium hyaluronate to plump the skin, and Bulgarian rose oil acts as an anti-inflammatory and a source of vitamin c.  Zinc Oxide is used for sun protection in Better Skin Days giving it an SPF 25 UVA/UVB rating while iron oxides not only offer pigment to the product but blue light protection as well. For daytime usage this pretty much hits the mark of what I like to use on my skin when I get ready for the day. I like to use hyaluronic acid, vitamin c serum, and usually another bonus serum possibly niacinamide, or a radiance-boosting one before finishing with a moisturizer. I can combine most of that with just this product alone.

Makeup-wise I was pretty impressed with its ability to even out skin tone. It isn’t going to act like a concealer, it will slightly blur out those freckles or sunspots but it won’t make them disappear. I like this level of coverage for me. For a nearly bare look. The color I choose ended up being perfect (light medium)and hopefully will continue to work as I get darker in the next month or so, I think it will. I do wish this gave a slightly dewier finish than it does. In order to give me that more “wet” finish I use something like fresh beauty’s rose oil serum with some moisturizer to give it a good hydrated base first.

It looks good throughout the day. I don’t notice any cracking or weirdness, just a general slight fading away as you’d expect with a lightweight product on a sweaty face. So while some may say this product gives a dewy finish, I think it’s closer to a natural finish with a *bit* of dew when applying.

I like how easy it was to blend on the skin without any special tools. I can also easily layer where I want without too much fuss because everything blends really nicely. I’ve been wear cream blushes and bronzers lately and everything melts together perfectly.

The full-sized product comes in at $64 for 1.75oz of product. Honestly, this is the priciest foundation/SPF type product I’ve ever considered purchasing and I’m still glad I did. I love that Iris & Romeo thought to add a sample size for those of us worried about a shade match or the price tag. It helps to know that the brand is confident enough to do that and go the extra mile.

In these photos my skin is prepped with some Pixi Rose+ Radiance Oil, and HoneyLab Skin Rescue Face Serum in order to achieve the dew/glow I like for my skin. I have RMS Beauty Luminizer on my brow and cheekbone, Kosas Revealer Concealer, Inner Beauty Cosmetics CoCo Cream Blush, Ilia Balmy Gloss Tinted Lip Oil, and Tower 28 Bronzino Illuminating Cream Bronzer.
