Supergoop CC Screen: Hit or Miss?

It’s not common for me to choose higher coverage foundations because I feel it doesn’t look good on me. Sheer to medium is the sweet spot for me, hyperpigmentation, freckles, and all. But my curiosity has gotten the best of me this Summer and I wanted to try Supergoop CC Screen and see if I’d like the results. What is your guess? Read on to find out!

I’m not sure if I’ve ever tried anything from Supergoop before. If I did it was a sample, but I’ve been aware of them for quite some time. I like their push for daily sunscreen usage. It’s something that I think is becoming more common to use outside of a pool or beach session and their founder has worked hard to make it a daily thing in our skincare routine. Supergoop has over 40+ formulas in their product family, all formulated to be cleaner, cruelty-free and reef-friendly. That means no oxybenzone, btw!

I forget which blogger I saw talking about Supergoop CC Screen but whatever they said made me drop it into my shopping cart to purchase later on. As I read more about it, it was very appealing to me and of course, I was curious about the coverage.

The details

Their CC Screen is 100% mineral-based, oil-free, and offers SPF 50/ PA +++ protection. There are 15 shades to choose from with fair, warm, and neutral undertones that color correct and leave a natural finish. It also goes beyond a traditional basic sunscreen with its inclusion of skin-nourishing ingredients like Irish moss (antioxidant, antibacterial, rich in omegas) and apple extract for added luminosity.

I find the formula hydrating as it claims. The product dispenses out of a squeezy tube and is easy to control during application. I mostly use my hands to apply but have also had success using my IT cosmetics foundation brushes to buff — you just need to be sure to apply two layers so that you get the color coverage and sun protection the product is designed for.

My results

Supergoop CC screen does a fantastic job of evening out the complexion. It has true medium coverage that can be achieved with the two layers and does dry down fairly quickly. I am not as much of a fan of a natural finish but have learned to use an oil underneath. Lately, I’ve been incorporating True Botanicals Pure Radiance Oil into my routine so that I can achieve a more luminous finish that‘s more my jam.

Because it’s mineral I don’t have to worry about stinging eyes. That is the absolutely worst because it hurts AND ruins your makeup at the same time. It even does a pretty good job of masking out dark circles for me which is great because I can use less concealer.

I had trouble with my color choice though. I initially bought shade 215N (light with neutral undertones) and wore it twice only to confirm that it was too light for me at the time. I then returned that shade and got 315N (medium with neutral undertones) which was a far better match for me than the first. As time goes on though, I do wish there was another shade in between those which would be an exact match. Some days 315N feels dark on me and I take extra time to blend the product down my neck so there is no detectable.

Final thoughts

I find the wear time to be satisfactory to me. I generally put makeup on anywhere from 8-10 am and take it off around 5 or 6 pm and didn’t see weird cracking or dryness. I haven’t bothered with settings sprays all that much but it seems to do fine without it.

Overall, I am happy with my purchase but would be happier if I had an exact color match. I still wear this often because I like the look, feel, and coverage from it. It doesn’t feel mask-y on me and makes me feel good about the product I choose to put on my skin.

Aside from that, have any of you guys tried their Shimmer shades with SPF 30? They look so pretty and I love the idea of added protection for the eyelids since they are so delicate!

  • Yes, it looks great on you! I have used Supergoop hand cream and eye cream with spf. I need to go into Sephora (for the first time in 2 years) and ask them to make me a sample

  • I prefer light to medium coverage as well. Thank you for your review, I am going to go see if there is a decent color match for my skin tone.

  • Supergoop is such a great brand but colorwise I wonder if I'd find anything light enough for me.
