True Botanicals Pure Radiance Oil: Renew

If you ever asked me about my facial oil collection, I could probably fill an entire medicine cabinet with the options I have. Almost every brand has one, and there are so many ways to treat the skin with them, no matter what your skin type is like. I recently was invited to give True Botanicals Pure Radiance Oil a try. I have seen so many ads for the brand featuring Olivia Wilde who I think is absolutely stunning in every way, and Laura Dern is in their ads too who’s looking pretty fantastic herself! So needless to say, I was in!

If you aren’t familiar with True Botanicals, they are a luxury line of vegan, sustainable natural skincare that has been put through the rigors of testing to prove their efficacy. The focus is on ethically sourcing ingredients at potent concentrations for a true biocompatible line, free of irritants, or sensitizing components.

They are also cruelty-free, PETA and Leaping Bunny certified, and make sure all of their products carry the MADE SAFE® seal which certifies they are made without 6500 different toxic chemicals known to be harmful.

While so many of their products caught my eye, the product I will be sharing with you guys today is their cult favorite, True Botanicals Pure Radiance Facial Oil: Renew. There are a couple of versions of their radiance oil (one for breakouts, and one for sensitive skin) but I thought the one for wrinkles best suited me. There is also a CBD version, but honestly, CBD, in general, is so hit and miss for me, more so miss so I didn’t want to disappoint myself.

Renew looked like the best choice for my skin after reading part of the description:

“helps target signs of aging and is clinically proven to outperform a leading anti-aging moisturizer.”

Outperform? Well, I expect no miracles, but with a statement like that, I am 100% intrigued. I should also add that Pure Radiance Renew has a beautiful lineup for its ingredient list. It has a blend of omega 3 fatty acids, 14 different seed oils, algae extract and a highly potent antioxidant astaxanthin. I’m getting more into taking antioxidants and actually just ordered a highly recommended astaxanthin supplement along with another one that’s hard to pronounce but sounded good. Together, these nature-based ingredients are said to moisturize like no other, while also protecting the skin from environmental pollutants.

To dive into that a little deeper, Omega 3 fatty acids are not only great for cardiovascular health but also help balance skin oil production, improve hydration, boost skin’s ability to handle UV damage, and soften and smooth dry or irritated skin. Seed oils, like Chia and Kiwi seed offer Omega 3’s while papaya and passion fruit seed oil provide omega 6 and 9, along with vitamins A and C, all powerhouses in anti-aging skincare. Not to mention their enzymatic ability to gently slough away dead skin cells for smoother, younger-looking skin.

There are two types of algae in this product which I am not familiar with but learned that they are nutrient and mineral-rich along with astaxanthin which all help support a stronger skin barrier.

The oil is housed in a typical amber glass dropper and instructions are straight and to the point. Apply 5-10 drops to clean damp skin and voila! Because this facial oil deeply moisturizes, they say you can even forgo your moisturizer — something that I love applying to my skin so I used it both ways, with and without. It also has a scent to it, nothing strong or offensive but they do explain that some of the skin-loving ingredients are responsible for its fragrance (a blend of jasmine, neroli and rose.)

They are correct that this oil is enough and you can skip moisturizer. The times where I used both it felt like “too much” especially on hotter days when my face felt too slick for my liking. I try to stick to 5 drops per use, and enjoy how nicely the orange-hued oil absorbs into my skin. I also make sure I am always applying to damp skin, so fresh out of the shower or after using facial mists. I try to focus pressing it into the skin around my eyes since that’s where I show my age the most, but I do apply it all over and whatever I can get down onto my neck.

I truly want to reap the benefits of this facial oil and stick with it (I’ve only been using it for a few weeks now and it has probably only been a week or so of using it without additional moisturizers underneath. So this is one I’ll need to update in the future.

At $110 a bottle, it’s quite an investment. I suppose if you aren’t buying high-priced moisturizers that could offset the cost but it does make me cautious in my use because it’s probably the most expensive skincare product I own. But from what I have experienced so far, I am happy. My skin does have a glow to it before putting on any makeup that would enhance that, and can be used year-round — well, maybe skipping a few of those 115+ degree weeks when nothing feels good on the skin. Aside from those boiling hot weeks, this oil feels silky on the skin and never heavy.

In any case, it does make me interested in their other products like their chebula serum and nighttime products. I feel like this is doing the job it’s supposed to and with time I’ll see more.

  • I'm currently using a Jojoba oil I'm loving. Facial oils can be confusing, so thank you for introducing me to a good one!

  • Very interesting product and ingredients. I would probably be afraid to try it though because of the fragrance.
