Facial Mists From ITEM Beauty

Have you heard of ITEM Beauty? I really hadn’t heard of the brand until it was in an IPSY box I received and after that, I’d see it all over Instagram. ITEM Beauty is a beauty brand founded by popular social media star, Addison Rae. I have to admit, I’m forty years old and had no idea who she was. I don’t know a lot of the big-name social media stars except for Roxette Arisa, really, so it’s no shade to her — more power to her actually to create a beauty brand in the clean beauty space!

The brand was kind enough to send me a couple of their mists to try and offer my thoughts on them. I had previously tried a facial mist from the brand and I absolutely loved it! I’ll get into why soon.

Now I wouldn’t say facial mists are an absolute must for a skincare routine, but I do use them daily and will reach for them if they are around. Facial mists can be a great way to add some extra moisture to the skin before laying on hydrating or targeting serums for better absorption. I try to do my skincare immediately following my (hot) showers and I towel off my face out of habit. Really, I should just leave the water dripping on my face and immediately follow with my serums but I don’t.

The first one I tried was ITEM Beauty SHAKE IT balance & tone face mist. It’s designed for oily, combo, or normal skin. My skin is mostly normal with tendencies toward dry so probably not the best option for every day but will be handy in the Summer. SHAKE IT literally needs to be shaken before being used so the biphase can mix properly. It mattifies the skin while reducing redness with tiger grass and helping keep pores clear with the help of salicylic acid.

The misters on all ITEM Beauty are the absolute BEST!!!!!! Every single brand needs to make note of the sprayers on these because they produce a fine, even mist. Anyone else hate those mists that just spurt droplets all over your face? Not exactly helpful when you’re trying to set your makeup! These remind me of that perfect mist you get while standing in line at an amusement park waiting to get on a ride in the middle of the Summer. Just perfection!

But back to the SHAKE IT face mist. It also contains charcoal to help absorb excess oils and I could actually feel it doing this. I feel a slight tightening of the skin without it feeling dry. I still don’t think this is a good choice for me during the Winter because my eyes can look really dry if I don’t hydrate and moisturize the area very well. So we’ll revisit that one in a couple more months.

This face mist is $20 for a little over 3 oz and I’m okay with that price for the quality of the liquid and the actual spray mist. When this runs out I’ll be keeping this bottle to refill with other facial mist favorites! SHAKE IT is vegan, cruelty-free, and labeled Sephora Clean.

The second mist I tried is SCREEN BREAK Blue light – anti-pollution face mist.  I really liked the sound of this one immediately because I am in front of computer and phone screens all day and anything that will help a little in slowing down the aging process, I’m for it! SCREEN BREAK is vegan and cruelty-free. It’s a hydrating facial mist that helps protect the skin from HEV Blue light and environmental pollution.

Ashwagandha is the key protector here, blocking damage from overexposure to HEV light, while dandelion, a known detoxifier is included to fend off daily environmental pollution. Glycerin, which is a wonderful humectant draws moisture into the skin, while niacinamide helps even out skin texture.

They say that this one is for all skin types, and I do agree, I think anyone could benefit from this mist as long as they aren’t allergic to anything specific. Not sure I would follow the brand’s recommendation to mist regularly throughout the day unless you plan on layering that with something more occlusive to keep that moisture in, but it is tempting. Something I would probably do more so when it’s Summer and I just want to cool off.

Both mists feel very nice on the skin. Nothing feels sticky or like a film is left behind. The fine mist is a stand-out feature of these products. Truly, most do not compare.  Fresh Beauty has

A Vitamin Nectar Antioxidant mist (I use this too) that has a very fine mist, but I’d like them to design it with a continuous spray, but it’s not a deal-breaker for me.

Some people question if products can help protect against blue light or if blue light is even damaging. I like to err on the side of caution with something like this that has multiple benefits to it (hydration, soothing, etc). I would not take reviews on an online retailer site as reliable. People get their info from so many places and I prefer to hear from dermatologists I follow and confirm by trying to read about it from multiple sources.

The other products from ITEM Beauty do look intriguing. It does give off a younger vibe which makes me feel like it’s not meant for me, but there are things I would use if I came across them, like lid glaze (jelly eye shadows), the powder eye shadow palette, and maybe the cheek duo.

These aren’t the only two face mists I enjoy though! Here are a few others that I use/have used and loved!
