Two Of The Best Honey Masks I’ve Tried

I have a soft spot for all things honey-related and I’m not shy about it. Honey is amazing in so many ways and I love that there are so many benefits to it, inside and out! Today I thought it would be fun to look at two honey masks that I really enjoy. I have purchased both of these products in the past and would get again once these run out. So if you’re a fan of honey, stick around for this quick read on two honey masks that will give your skin some added TLC. 

All About Honey

Honey is known to be beneficial due to its high levels of antioxidants which can help with inflammation, and trace levels of minerals that our body thrives on like zinc, iron, magnesium, and potassium. It also serves as a fantastic humectant for the skin, drawing moisture where we need it, and has even provided antibacterial benefits when it comes to wound healing in a medical setting. 

Honey is also associated with propolis, also known as a  “bee glue” of sorts. It’s a mixture of saliva, beeswax, pollen and other organic material that is used to “seal” up their hives and prevent unwanted visitors. But propolis isn’t just useful to bees alone, it’s something we can consume and reap the benefits of as well!

Propolis has antimicrobial properties which can help in a topical application,  and further serves as a source of antioxidants and anti-inflammatories.

The Overnight Mask

The first mask that I want to share is Lather’s Honey Moisture Mask with Propolis extract. Made for dry and distressed skin types, the Lather mask is designed to replenish the complexion that has been exposed to environmental aggressors, pollution, and the weather. The directions say this mask can be worn for about 20 minutes before massaging the excess into the skin, but I generally apply just the right amount for this to be an overnight moisturizer and move on with my night. 

Lather uses no artificial fragrance or colorants in their products, but this mask has the most beautiful honey scent to it that I thoroughly enjoy. The texture of the mask is much like a regular moisturizing cream. It is housed in a tub for easy scooping and absorbs nicely without any greasiness left behind. 

It uses a blend of skin-loving ingredients like sweet almond oil, glycerin, aloe, and st. johns wort to soothe, hydrate and moisturize while propolis extract and royal jelly round out this concoction. Royal Jelly is another bee-derived ingredient that you will see pop up from time to time. Royal jelly is what is fed to bee larvae in their first few days of life and helps one develop into a Queen bee with a longer lifespan. 

Lots of people will add royal jelly supplements to shakes or foods they eat in order to reap the benefits of this ingredient, so it’s no wonder we find it in skincare as well. 

I like using this mask a few times a week when my skin is feeling a little dry or dull by bedtime. It feels so soothing to apply and I wake up with soft-to-the-touch skin.  (purchase at: Lather, Amazon)

The Wash Off Mask

If the idea of an overnight mask doesn’t appeal to you, or you feel that you don’t have dry, distressed skin, then Honey Potion Plus from Farmacy Beauty may be one that would catch your eye. 

With all skin types in mind, Farmacy made this mask to deliver a healthy dose of ceramides and antioxidants to the skin while creating an indulgent experience. I had no idea this was a warming mask the first time I tried it, I just bought it because I love anything honey and almost everything from Farmacy so it was a no-brainer to me. 

This product truly looks like thick honey in its hexagonal glass jar, and has the faintest smell of honey to me. There was a previous version of this mask (without the “plus” in the name, and it had me of a lavender scent to it, I prefer this more). As you massage it into the skin, it turns into a creamy white and you feel a warming sensation that helps you relax a bit. 

Living in the desert makes me feel like my skin is always in need of replenishment and needs aid in strengthening the skin barrier. Something I’ve been writing about a lot lately since the cool weather came back for a visit before Summer heat smacks us across the face. 

Honey Potion Plus also uses honey, propolis extract and royal jelly to hydrate and moisturize the skin, while also including upcycled apple extract along with soothing cica. Niacinamide works on the appearance of pores, while ceramides strengthen the skin barrier to lock in moisture better. Conclusion

Both of these masks are great and serve their purpose at different times of the day for me. The overnight one absorbs very nicely into the skin without leaving your face greasy or any heavy feel while the wash-off type is a wonderful post-shower relaxing experience. If you prefer something with less scent, I would try the Farmacy option which is made for all skin types. If your skin is severely dry, it can benefit more from the Lather leave on option.
