Colorescience Barrier Pro Line
We spend so much focus on skincare for our face, but what about our bodies? Sure, I like to try out all kinds of body care in addition to facial care, but not all of it focuses on active ingredients like something for the face. I have a few products to share in the pipeline for you that I’m excited about, and today I’m going to share a body lotion that has been a stand-out product over the last few weeks and you need to know about it. Say hello to one of my new favorite body lotions, Versed Firm Ground Retinol Body Lotion.
I’ve tried body lotions that have exfoliating properties because they include glycolics, but never one that had retinol in it. Let me tell you, right off the bat, I absolutely LOVE the texture of this body lotion. It has been such a treat to apply this after my showers and feel how my skin soaks it right up.
If you have ever tried Palmer’s Cocoa Butter lotions before, it has a very similar consistency to it. It appears thick and rich, but still applies and absorbs like a dream. It contains zero fragrance, which I’m okay with. Palmer’s is not something I really use anymore but the cocoa butter scent was borderline overboard for me at times.
Versed also formulated this (along with their other products) to have no artificial fragrances, silicones, sulfates, petrolatum, mineral oils, or PEGs. They are also vegan and (leaping bunny certified) cruelty-free.
I find this deeply moisturizing and slather it basically everywhere from the neck down. It doesn’t leave behind any sticky or heavy feel. It’s just your skin, but moisturized and smooth. No rough elbows here! I also like to apply this to my glute hip area which I notice is a little crepe-y in the last year or so.
What makes this lotion different from most others is that it contains encapsulated retinol. Retinol is a major player in skincare for its anti-aging abilities. It helps the skin renewal process by speeding up cell turnover to reveal smoother skin with a more even skin tone. Encapsulated retinol will be gentler on the skin, reducing the chance of surface irritation which can be common when people begin using retinol.
Just as a retinol product for the face would warn, Versed recommends using SPF30 on the body if you intend to be out in the sunshine since retinol can make you more culprit to sunburns/sun damage. I made that mistake this past weekend. I put sunscreen on my face, neck, and chest for a hike, but forgot my shoulders. I now have one tender shoulder and realized what I had done. Whoops!
The lotion also includes cocoa butter, squalane, and vitamin for an all-around skincare treat. Cocoa Butter just feels SO good on the skin and squalane is an emollient, well known in the skincare field to help moisturize the skin and act as an antioxidant. This is not to be confused with squalene, which is derived from a different source and has a significantly different shelf life. They both do similar things, but squalane is plant-derived and more sustainable, while squalane comes from shark livers. Our own bodies produce squalene on their own, but as we age, it produces less, and we need that helping hand. Thank goodness for squalane!
I’m very happy with this lotion. I do wish it came in a slightly bigger “value size” because I’m using it daily and it runs just under $18 for 6fl oz. I think most skin types would enjoy this. At first glance, it looks thick like a body butter, but I promise you it still acts as a lotion.

I have been wanting to try something from Versed. I absolutely need to try this body lotion with retinol! I used to love the consistency of Palmer's, so this might be a good fit for my dry skin!
