Five Products That Will Save Your Hands This Fall

Fall and Winter bring cooler weather for most of us which usually leads to dry hands and cuticles. And with my heavy workout routines, my hands get double destroyed. Without proper care, my hands literally HURT to hold the steering wheel and I catch myself looking at my palms and cuticles wincing at the burning I feel. To nip the problem in the bud, I’m using some products right now to keep my hands more comfortable in drier weather and chalky, strenuous workouts.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream – while this award-winning cream is simply too heavy for my face, it works perfectly for my tortured hands. I apply it right after a Crossfit class and let the thick cream absorbs mostly into the palms without leaving a greasy feel behind. Colloidal Oatmeal, shea butter, and ceramides to soften, moisturize and soothe any cracked or dry areas. I also love using this on my elbows or feet when I feel a rough spot forming. I try to remember to apply more on my hands more than once a day for it to truly repair the palms of my hands. It’s also available at Sephora.

Cirem Hand Sanitizer – If you’re looking for a hand sanitizer that won’t completely dry out your hands, then this is a good one to keep on hand. While it still contains the recommended 70% isopropyl alcohol to make it an effective cleaner, Circem also includes aloe vera and hyaluronic acid to hydrate the skin as well. I also enjoy the beautiful, light fragrance this one has!

Aveeno Repairing Cica Oat and Shea Butter Hand Masks – I love doing hand masks but I don’t do them enough! I always try to grab a couple on my trip to Target and these ones from Aveeno have been awesome! While I’ve tried several brands out there, the Aveeno ones are super affordable and accessible and use cica and prebiotic oat to heal, moisturize and soothe the hands when they are itchy dry from multiple handwashings throughout the day. Just wear these for ten minutes while you watch TV and rub the serum stuff into your hands and arms when you’re done. They are also available on Amazon.

Oils – There are hundreds out there that are made specifically for nails but considering I have so many facial oils in my skincare collection, I usually just grab the ones that are collecting dust. Adding a few drops to a hand lotion is great, or you can even massage it directly into the nails and cuticles for healthy nail growth and to prevent cuticle splitting. This one has over 37,000+ reviews on Amazon and gets mentioned frequently in my nail dip Facebook group. I’m curious because of what I think the scent may be like, but because I have so many on hand I’ll wait on it. Don’t have any facial oils on hand? You can easily hit up your kitchen pantry for olive oil which is super moisturizing for the nails and skin.

Cotton Gloves – While I don’t think gloves are needed on a regular basis, they can really help while doing an overnight moisturizing treatment for your hands. Not only will it allow the products you put on your hands to seep in longer, but it will also protect your sheets, pajamas, and furniture from heavy creams or oil stains. I do feel like my hands get a bit warm wearing them so I don’t always use gloves, but I can see and feel a difference when I use them. You can find some for super cheap on amazon. I read tons of reviews of ones that didn’t fit people well or fell apart and this three-pack has served me well. Just keep in mind you won’t be able to do touch screens with these gloves on so keep a stylus handy if you plan to use your phone or iPad!

  • My go-to hand balm is from RITUALS. But lately my hands are so dry that I need something even more hydrating. I am going to try putting hyaluronic acid on them as a serum under hand cream, but I love your idea about using face oils. I will try it today!

  • I do precisely the same thing with facial oils– plus since I have so many of them in rotation, I often add them to hand and body lotions!

  • I have a few hand creams in action plus I love using my moisturizers on my hands. I didn't know Aveeno had those hand masks, that's something I'll look for with my CVS Coupon.

  • I love that FAB cream, it is a staple! Also, I really need to do more hand masks, especially now that it is getting really cold.
