Crystal Hills Organics Review

crystal hills organics review by iliketotalkblogI’ve always enjoyed trying out different bath and body products and have recently been reaching for Crystal Hills Organics body serum and bath salts. Crystal Hills Organics is a cruelty-free, Canadian based skincare brand that combines the healing power of crystals with the beautifying abilities of natural ingredients. The founder, Andrea, made sure to formulate her products by using organically grown ingredients wherever possible for the purest, and most luxurious skincare treats she could offer.

Andrea sent me a couple of products to try and with perfect timing. I will admit that I usually am drawn to skincare products that are heavily scented with tropical fragrances — however it seems those fragrances have turned against me and caused a bit of my rash on my legs. I needed to switch to something with a simpler ingredient list and decided it was a good time to give Crystal Hills Body Serum a try.

crystal hills organics review by iliketotalkblogThere are four versions and I chose Moon Goddess Body Serum. Moon Goddess has notes of jasmine, frankincense and neroli essential oils that smells beautiful but not overpowering in any way. The serum is extremely lightweight on the skin and uses a blend of botanicals and skin loving oils that nourish, hydrate and protect the skin with the power of antioxidants. Meadowfoam oil and Elderberry Extract are two antioxidants I was excited to see in the formula since I know they are really beneficial to the body. Each bottle of body serum also includes a small piece of clear quartz which is thought to harmonize the chakras and balance energy. I will be honest — I am not familiar with any of that stuff, but sounds good to me! Balance is never a bad thing!  My first impression of the serum was that this left my skin velvety soft. I’ve never had an oil based product produce that type of feel before and was highly impressed. The oils absorb very quickly and soothed my irritated legs within a couple days. I shave every day so an after-bath moisturizing product is a must– and I’ve been using this EVERY DAY since I’ve received it!

crystal hills organics review by iliketotalkblogAndrea offered to send me a second product when she saw that I loved the body serum so much so we decided on the matching bath salts!  The salts are seriously ALMOST too pretty to use! It comes with a small muslin bag to pour a small amount of salt in to soak in your bath. I realized after receiving that I still take baths with my little girl and wasn’t sure about using bath soaks with essential oils in them with her sitting in it for long periods of time — so I decided to treat myself to a warm foot soak and pedicure after her bedtime. I used a taller bucket so I could really fill it up and added the little baggie to the warm water. I loved the aroma it produced and was very relaxing as I watched a little TV at night. Crystal Moon Goddess Bath Salts uses a variety of salts like Solar Dried sea salt and Dead Sea Salt and MSM to relax the muscles, reduce inflammation and detox the skin. I’ve never thought to give my foot soak a hand full of bath salts before and I feel like I’ve been missing out! I may need to give my daughter an earlier bath so I can give this a try without her around!

**EDIT — I found out we CAN use the salts with my daughter in the bath so we’re going to give it a go! **

crystal hills organics review by iliketotalkblogI highly recommend these products if you’re looking for a way to treat yourself (or another) to a fabulous skincare treat. I only wish the matching body scrub was available at the same time since I’m a huge fan of scrubs!

Customized Skincare With Sonya Dakar

sonya-dakar-skincare facial review by iliketotalkblogThis week I was invited to the Sonya Dakar Skin Clinic located in Beverly Hills. It’s very recognizable building from when I used to live in the LA area and visit my (then boyfriend, now husband) who lived in Westwood. What I didn’t know about it was that there is a fabulous rooftop fit for a pampering facial and taking in all the sights that Beverly Hills has to offer. There was no way I could to pass up this opportunity to get a signature facial treatment and a customized skincare routine made just for me.

I arrived with my fellow blogger, Jen from My Beauty Bunny and was greeted first by the skincare guru herself, Sonya and later by her daughter, Mimi who is the director for the clinic. They had a bit of hazy day weather which actually worked out perfectly for the treatments that followed.

sonya-dakar-skincare facial review by iliketotalkblog

You guys, if you’ve never had a rooftop facial. Do yourself a favor and book one for yourself and call it your Mother’s Day and Christmas present treat to yourself!! You gotta do it! Our Estheticians had us lay down and wrapped us up in cozy blankets as we shut our eyes and they went to work. A quick analysis of my skin showed it was combination with some current breakouts. Somehow she was able to tell I was a coffee drinker, how much water I had recently and if I had any chocolate (confession: I had a pint of Halo Top Chocolate Ice cream the night before). How did she know that stuff? I was impressed. She asked about my breakouts which led to me talking about being a new mom and to my pleasant surprise she took my treatment up a notch by letting me know this was my time to relax–she wasn’t going to say a word, just sleep, because as a new mom you never get to. Heaven to my ears! I literally DOZED off near the end of my facial. It was fabulous. Clean skin, a nice arm massage, a quick cat nap, and kid-free time. What else could I ask for?

sonya-dakar-skincare facial review by iliketotalkblogAfter our facials were followed by a quick recap of the products used and recommended by our skin specialists. Mimi took the time to explain each product specifically chosen for each of us. She also explained how Sonya was one of the first to use probiotics and botanically based ingredients in her coveted skincare line. I felt like I was being let in on a skincare secret only the celebs find out about! But don’t worry, I’m going to share with you guys! I was sent home with:

sonya-dakar-skincare facial review by iliketotalkblog

Silver Clarifying Wash: This clear liquid gel uses probiotics and silver ions to fight acne causing bacteria and unclog pores. I had a pretty big monster on my forehead so it was perfect timing I got this. It has no fragrance and is 99% natural. It’s also paraben free and uses rosemary oil to prevent spoilage.

sonya-dakar-skincare facial review by iliketotalkblogVolcano Mask: A non-drying mask that purges the skin of acne spots while helping minimize pores. HELLO. Already my favorite product if it helps pore size. This is great for those oily areas of the skin to help control excess oil and draw out impurities in the skin. I don’t like masks that dry like a hard clay so using a comfortable one that will fight pimples is a winner for me.

sonya-dakar-skincare facial review by iliketotalkblogNano Hydrator: Because I’ve started to wear makeup more often again it’s important that I use a very lightweight moisturizer so I don’t feel that I have layers caked on. The Nano Hydrator is perfect in that is absorbs quickly and works as an anti-aging treatment with it’s nano stem cell complex. It’s rich in antioxidants to fight free radicals and feels comfortable on the skin.

sonya-dakar-skincare facial review by iliketotalkblogOrganic Omega Booster: We found out that Sonya LOVES using oils so it’s no wonder that her most popular product is the Organic Omega Booster which is rich in Omegas 3, 6 and 9. This product is available in two versions (depending on your skin type) and works great as a PM treatment for me. My skin feels like silk with just a few drops added on top of the Nano Hydrator. Not only does it nourish and hydrate my skin, it helps balance oil production in those areas that like to work overtime.

sonya-dakar-skincare facial review by iliketotalkblogDaily Shield SPF 30: If there is one feeling I loathe on my skin is a heavy sunscreen and Sonya Dakar’s Daily Shield feels nothing like the typical sunscreen we are all used to. Very lightweight, and provides full UVA/UVB protection for maximum anti-aging benefits. I’ve spent too much time in the sun in my past and it is more critical than ever to wear sunscreen daily to protect it as much as I can. I live at the beach and spend time outside daily so I’m much better at remembering to do it now. This is one of the best feeling sunscreens I’ve used to date!

You can get any of these products online or at the skin clinic if they sound like a fit for you. I am actually super interested in her Nutrasphere Nano Mask and the Flash Facial. Those sound like must try’s!

Which product sounds the best to you? Let me know in the comments below!

Pixi Beauty Glycolic Skincare Trio

pixi beauty glycolic skincare review by iliketotalkblogNormally, I wait months before I share about a skincare product because it really does take time to see the results of using a new skincare regimen – but I’ve been so impressed with this one I’m using that I couldn’t wait to share with you guys! Have you heard of Pixi Beauty? It’s actually been around for over a decade, but it was only until now that I’ve got to try out their skincare line and it’s AH-MAZ-ING! The brand recently sent me their glycolic skin trio and if your skin is in need of a little revamp you’ll want to read on!

Glycolic acid is one of those skincare ingredients that may sound scary but it can do some serious improvement for the skin. It’s an AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) that works amazingly well for skin exfoliation. So if you’re looking for anti-aging and skin brightening skincare, this is one ingredient you need to incorporate into your routine. Not only does it reveal the younger skin underneath, it also boosts collagen production which is known to be a key part of skin renewal. Glycolic acid can come in a variety of percentages, and you’ll need to figure out which level will work best for your skin, and sometimes you’ll need to ease into using it by using it every other day, and then every day and then every am and pm. I was already using retinoids morning and night so my skin was ready for something new but at a good useful level.

pixi beauty glycolic skincare review by iliketotalkblogPixi Beauty Glow Mud Cleanser uses a 5% glycolic concentration in a deep pore cleansing mud. Usually mud cleansers feel dry to me so I avoid them, but this didn’t dry out my skin at all. It can be used on all skin types– just be aware if you have sensitive skin or have reactive skin line mine you may be a little pink if you aren’t used to GA yet. My skin was totally fine and felt nice and clean afterwards. It’s non-foaming, so you just gently massage into the skin for about 30 seconds and rinse off. The cleanser is reasonably priced at $18 a tube and you don’t need much for it to cover your face and neck. I use it for both morning and my night shower.

pixi beauty glycolic skincare review by iliketotalkblogIn the evenings I follow with the Pixi Beauty Glow Tonic To Go facial pads. This really just their famous glow tonic but in an easy to pack pre-moistened cotton pad form. Perfect if you want to throw in your gym or travel bag. It has a bit of texture to the pads so you may see even a bit more dirt come using them (something sickeningly satisfying about that). It also feels good to work these into the skin in areas where I get some pore blockage around my chin. These also use a 5% GA concentration and is alcohol free so it not drying at all! Woot! I don’t rinse my face after this step because I want to leave all that glow tonic goodness on my skin!

pixi beauty glycolic skincare review by iliketotalkblogLastly, I follow with the Pixi Beauty Overnight Renewal Serum which is the real star of the show. With a 10% glycolic acid concentration and arginine which is thought to boost collagen production, this gel serum works to reveal clearer, brighter skin overnight (without irritation). You guys….seriously, after just a few days this trio was able to unblock some pores that has been plugged FOREVER. Pimples that were lurking under the surface finally came to a head and were up and out within days. They also healed super fast. You know just as well as me that if you just try and pop a pimple that’s not ready it lingers around looking sore as hell and you regret what you did, but you can’t seem to resist. Using effective products like these stop me from doing extractions on my own because they will gently resolve these issues without my intervention. This serum will set you back only $24 and you only need 2-3 drops to cover the entire face.

By using all three products for almost three weeks I am happy to say my skin feels smoother, clearer, and I’d like to think it accepts my HA serums better because my skin is freshly and gently exfoliated on an ongoing basis. I may switch over to the liquid version of the glow tonic, but the renewal serum is my number one serum right now.
