Customized Skincare With Sonya Dakar

sonya-dakar-skincare facial review by iliketotalkblogThis week I was invited to the Sonya Dakar Skin Clinic located in Beverly Hills. It’s very recognizable building from when I used to live in the LA area and visit my (then boyfriend, now husband) who lived in Westwood. What I didn’t know about it was that there is a fabulous rooftop fit for a pampering facial and taking in all the sights that Beverly Hills has to offer. There was no way I could to pass up this opportunity to get a signature facial treatment and a customized skincare routine made just for me.

I arrived with my fellow blogger, Jen from My Beauty Bunny and was greeted first by the skincare guru herself, Sonya and later by her daughter, Mimi who is the director for the clinic. They had a bit of hazy day weather which actually worked out perfectly for the treatments that followed.

You guys, if you’ve never had a rooftop facial. Do yourself a favor and book one for yourself and call it your Mother’s Day and Christmas present treat to yourself!! You gotta do it! Our Estheticians had us lay down and wrapped us up in cozy blankets as we shut our eyes and they went to work. A quick analysis of my skin showed it was combination with some current breakouts. Somehow she was able to tell I was a coffee drinker, how much water I had recently and if I had any chocolate (confession: I had a pint of Halo Top Chocolate Ice cream the night before). How did she know that stuff? I was impressed. She asked about my breakouts which led to me talking about being a new mom and to my pleasant surprise she took my treatment up a notch by letting me know this was my time to relax–she wasn’t going to say a word, just sleep, because as a new mom you never get to. Heaven to my ears! I literally DOZED off near the end of my facial. It was fabulous. Clean skin, a nice arm massage, a quick cat nap, and kid-free time. What else could I ask for?

sonya-dakar-skincare facial review by iliketotalkblogAfter our facials were followed by a quick recap of the products used and recommended by our skin specialists. Mimi took the time to explain each product specifically chosen for each of us. She also explained how Sonya was one of the first to use probiotics and botanically based ingredients in her coveted skincare line. I felt like I was being let in on a skincare secret only the celebs find out about! But don’t worry, I’m going to share with you guys! I was sent home with:

Silver Clarifying Wash: This clear liquid gel uses probiotics and silver ions to fight acne causing bacteria and unclog pores. I had a pretty big monster on my forehead so it was perfect timing I got this. It has no fragrance and is 99% natural. It’s also paraben free and uses rosemary oil to prevent spoilage.

sonya-dakar-skincare facial review by iliketotalkblogVolcano Mask: A non-drying mask that purges the skin of acne spots while helping minimize pores. HELLO. Already my favorite product if it helps pore size. This is great for those oily areas of the skin to help control excess oil and draw out impurities in the skin. I don’t like masks that dry like a hard clay so using a comfortable one that will fight pimples is a winner for me.

sonya-dakar-skincare facial review by iliketotalkblogNano Hydrator: Because I’ve started to wear makeup more often again it’s important that I use a very lightweight moisturizer so I don’t feel that I have layers caked on. The Nano Hydrator is perfect in that is absorbs quickly and works as an anti-aging treatment with it’s nano stem cell complex. It’s rich in antioxidants to fight free radicals and feels comfortable on the skin.

sonya-dakar-skincare facial review by iliketotalkblogOrganic Omega Booster: We found out that Sonya LOVES using oils so it’s no wonder that her most popular product is the Organic Omega Booster which is rich in Omegas 3, 6 and 9. This product is available in two versions (depending on your skin type) and works great as a PM treatment for me. My skin feels like silk with just a few drops added on top of the Nano Hydrator. Not only does it nourish and hydrate my skin, it helps balance oil production in those areas that like to work overtime.

sonya-dakar-skincare facial review by iliketotalkblogDaily Shield SPF 30: If there is one feeling I loathe on my skin is a heavy sunscreen and Sonya Dakar’s Daily Shield feels nothing like the typical sunscreen we are all used to. Very lightweight, and provides full UVA/UVB protection for maximum anti-aging benefits. I’ve spent too much time in the sun in my past and it is more critical than ever to wear sunscreen daily to protect it as much as I can. I live at the beach and spend time outside daily so I’m much better at remembering to do it now. This is one of the best feeling sunscreens I’ve used to date!

You can get any of these products online or at the skin clinic if they sound like a fit for you. I am actually super interested in her Nutrasphere Nano Mask and the Flash Facial. Those sound like must try’s!

Which product sounds the best to you? Let me know in the comments below!

Farsali Unicorn Essence Elixir

Farsali Unicorn Essense SerumI usually am way behind on beauty trends even though I’m a beauty blogger. I don’t like to wake up at midnight to be the first to place an order, because sleep > everything.  And having a toddler takes up a lot of my attention right now. However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t slightly obsess over products that hit the beauty market, and the serums from Farsali are a perfect example of that. Since before the end of the year, I’ve wanted to try their products. It wasn’t until last month that I was finally able to place an order for their ever popular Farsali Unicorn Essence Elixir.

Farsali Unicorn Essense SerumIf you’ve been living under a rock like I was, let me bring you up to date on this trendy brand. Farsali is a brand created by Sal Ali, beauty guru, Farah Dhukai’s husband in an effort to create a skincare line that enhanced the look of your makeup. The Farsali brand includes serums, primers, a cleanser and lash enhancer. Their serums and primer are the hot items at the moment and if you take a look at their Instagram you’ll see that every big beauty Instagramer or Youtuber is featuring the product in their makeup routines.

I really wanted to get their Rose Gold Elixir because I’ve  been trying out a lot of matte liquid lipsticks and it looked like the solution to a problem we all usually have. Seriously dried out lips! But when Unicorn Essence Elixir was reintroduced and was selling out on Sephora, I knew I better grab this antioxidant serum and primer because EVERY other time I’d seen it, it was already gone and not available for months. Still got my eye on the Rose Gold Elixir, but had to get this one first!

You guys, I’ve been wanting to try this brand since before the holidays and I finally got my hands on this hot little bottle right here. @farsalicare Unicorn Essence Antioxidant Serum and Primer has been so popular that it was always sold out when I checked! It’s oil free, smells like unicorn farts, and feels fantastic on the skin! ? I tried it this past weekend and felt that my skin was properly moisturized and ready for foundation —and loved that it was packed with good for your skin ingredients like goji Berry fruit extract and acai fruit extract. Love me some antioxidant power! And the formula is just gorgeous! A pink shimmery liquid that soaks into the skin quickly. Swipe to see a better look! ? I need to get that rose gold elixir next! . . . #farsali #farsalicare #farsalounicornessence #antioxidants #serum #primer #farahdhukai #bblogger #ocblogger #beautyblog #beautyblogger #skincare #makeupblogger #makeuplover #skinprep #beautyblogcoalition #sephora #lovelysquares #pursuepretty #crueltyfree #crueltyfreebeauty #crueltyfreeskincare #pink #girly #girly? #beautifulskin #healthyskin #farsaliunicornessence

This dual purpose serum is oil-free, suitable for all skin types, preps the skin for makeup application and fights free radical damage with it’s unique blend of superfruit extracts.  The formula is pink and shimmery and totally appeals to my visual senses. I think the scent is possibly Vanilla? It smells like it has more to it than that, but I’m pretty bad at describing scents. Just know it smells good!

Farsali Unicorn Essense SerumSince this is a pricer primer serum for me to use, I only use it if I’m going to wear makeup that day. It absorbs well and does leave my skin feeling smooth and moisturized so my foundations applies evenly. Not an artificial, silicone-like smooth, but your own skin, just better.

I appreciate that the serum has so many great ingredients to it and has a high level of antioxidants for my mid-thirties skin. Acai berry, Elderberry, Goji berry and Blueberry extracts are just a few of the easy to recognize ingredients in this skin prep primer.

I can’t say that my makeup lasts longer with this serum because I think I use a pretty good foundation with holding power, but the fact that my skin has the right level of hydration before I put a foundation on is key for me. If something is too oily my makeup with slide around and wear off around my nose and between my brows.

I’d really like to get my hands on the Rose Gold Elixir next. I mean, you guys, have you seen it? It’s got gold flakes in it! I want gold flakes on my face! Somehow that stuff rubs in and everyone sees to be really impressed with it.

Will you be hopping on the Farsali bandwagon with me?

Get Glowing Skin With Borika Body

borika body scrub review by iliketotalkblogThere’s no doubt about it, I love using body scrubs! I’ve always got a tub planted in my shower and have others waiting to be used in my cupboards. OK, I may be a bit of a bath and body hoarder. You got me! So naturally, when I was contacted to try Borika Body’s organic body scrubs there was no hesitation in my response. Send them on over!

Borika Body specializes in organic, vegan and cruelty-free scrubs that are made with all natural ingredients that are safe for you and the environment. Whether you have dry, oily or sensitive skin, Borika Body has a scrub that works to improve overall tone and texture of your skin.  Each scrub is made with a blend of ingredients like coffee grounds, coconut, Himalayan salts, cocoa, or cinnamon that work to reveal a fresh, smooth and healthy layer of skin.

borika body scrub review by iliketotalkblogI was sent two different kinds of scrubs to try, their Mandarin Cocoa scrub and their Coffee and Coconut Scrub. The Coffee and Coconut scrub is suitable for normal to dry skin types and can be used on both the face and body. The formula also includes Himalayan salt which improves hydration of the skin because of the trace elements that it contains. Virgin Coconut oil deeply hydrates the skin which is the perfect compliment to my long, hot showers. It basically feels like I don’t need lotion after my bath (but I always do because I like to use it). My legs feel polished and my elbows feel smooth!

The scrub has a right amount of grit to it. Nothing uncomfortable, but has enough to make a difference in the feel of your skin. And it definitely has that deep coffee aroma once you screw open the jar and apply it all over!

borika body scrub review by iliketotalkblogThe Mandarin Cocoa scrub works wonderfully for sensitive skin types which made me a bit more comfortable trying it out on my face. I LOVED the scent of this scrub. Nice and chocolately! The special ingredient in this scrub is almond oil which is one of my favorite body oils of choice to use. It’s high in vitamin E, absorbs well, and can soothe sensitive skin. It also includes brown sugar for a good, effective scrub. I made sure to give my face and neck and good massage with this one and loved how my skin felt transformed. We often forget to exfoliate our neck, but it can make such a difference when you do. Just be sure to follow with a good facial cream or serum since the skin is prepped for ideal absorption at this point!

borika body scrub review by iliketotalkblogI like that this brand kept their products on the affordable side, capping it at $25 and under. Many times brands with organic ingredients tend to jump up in price but these are doable for me.
