I was granted an opportunity to try Holocuren’s holistic line of lip and mouth products. Holocuren’s product line uses the anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and healing powers of Australian Tea Tree Oil and Brazilian Bee Propolis to protect, treat, and heal dry, chapped lips. The lip serum and salve both not only heal dry, chapped lips, but also claims to prevent and heal cold sores, fever blisters, and other blemishes, bites, cuts and scrapes. With a claim like that I knew I had to check it out. After all, I care about my lips, and I’m always up to try out a lip treatment, especially one that uses over 25 natural and organic ingredients to make my lips look gorgeous!
Holocuren, was the creation of Dr. Bob Heinman, the founder, and formulator for the internationally famous skin care line, Epicuren Discovery. An ultra luxurious anti-aging natural Skincare line based on research on enzymes working at the molecular level to heal and treat the skin in a whole new way. What started out as treatments for serious burn patients, developed into a line of potent natural products that increase cell-renewal, prevent wrinkles and rejuvenate the skin with its enzyme protein complexes. A whole other line of products I would love to try out! Paging Dr. Bob……Dr. Bob….
The science behind the effectiveness of the serum and salve is due to the active ingredients, Australian Tea Tree Oil and Brazilian Bee Propolis. While other products out there claim to use similar ingredients, Holocuren’s line uses them at potent active levels, without the expected irritation that tea tree oil can be associated with. Australian Tea Tree Oil is a widely used topical ingredient that has been used to treat anything from acne, fever blisters, psoriasis, and even issues with the lady-bits down below. Propolis is a resinous mixture made by bees to seal up hives and protect their homes from foreign intruders. Together, they make an ultimate fighting duo against infection and promote healing. The treatment is formulated in an organic Shea butter base, along with other nourishing oils to keep the thin skin of lips moisturized and softened.
[Review] I was open to finding out what the serum and salve would really do. After all, it’s an “all-natural” product which can sometimes be hit or miss. Especially with claims to actually heal and prevent–that I had to see for myself.
The Miracle Lips Skin and Lip Salve actually ended up being my favorite product of the two. I honestly thought a serum would be the winner but I preferred the matte coat of the salve to the liquidity of the serum. The salve is yellow-clear but goes on 100% clear and is not noticeable to anyone you speak to– it’s literally like applying any other jelly to the lips.
I was able to use a tester size and the full size and I’m not sure if there was a difference in the hole size but I found the slanted lip applicator on the tester allowed the product to flow more easily—I have no idea why— the full size tube just shot-out like a cannon ball after giving it a really good squeeze- I suspect it may be the propolis crystals that may clog the hole? Anyhow, I applied to my lips daily for about a week, just as I would with any other lip balm; a couple of times a day, throughout the day. I ended up applying the salve to a few cuts I had on my legs also to see what would happen there. Hey, might as well put it to every test I could.
I also put the Miracle Lips Roll-on Serum to the test for a week to see how that differed from the salve. I used the roll-on serum only on the lips and loved applying it over and over. The serum comes in a very sleek glass tube with a metal roller ball applicator.
The serum goes on cool and smooth and almost spreads out to 100% liquid on the lips when it hits body temperature. Also, I noticed that the propolis is visible in the tube. No worries, as this has nothing to do with the formula, just that its oil and appears as a few brown droplets within the tube, I just roll the tube around in my hands so I make sure it’s all mixed in there before I put it on. The serum applies with a super glossy finish.
How does the Serum and Salve feel on? They actually feel quite different from anything else I’ve used on my lips, mostly due to the inclusion of tea tree oil and camphor which gives it a cooling effect where applied. Invigorating may be the word to use here because it wasn’t tingly, it just feels good. I do have to say that the tea tree oil has a distinctive scent and taste which was hard to ignore–at first. I would prefer if there was some sort of mint or vanilla flavoring (organic, of course) to help. My solution? Put a quick swipe of lip gloss or lipstick on top to tone it down a bit. There. All fixed. Update: My boyfriend does not detect the scent or taste when we kiss 🙂 hehe…good to know.
So? Results? Anything happen to my lips? The cuts?
While I wasn’t suffering from a fever blister (which I would really like to know how well it works with), I did have dry chapped lips due to the ever-changing weather and humidity levels between my home, office and outside. I also have to deal with some skin irritations I get on my lower lip from biting it all day when I’m thinking. Well guess what? It smoothed it out, there was no longer an itch, no redness– I actually forgot about it –-which is exactly what I hoped for. My lips were no longer chapped and didn’t look all gross and peely with lipstick on top. Yay! The cuts? I think I needed to apply more often to the cuts on my legs. They weren’t very big, but I think I would have seen more improvement if I applied more than once a day, I just kept forgetting until it was time to shower.
Would I recommend this product to anyone else?
I certainly would–as long as the scent of tea tree oil does not bother you. I find the salve very comforting to put on and I truly love how much better my lips feel. I think the salve has more applications versus the serum which I would really only use for my lips. I think it also has longer staying power. And if you totally into the tea tree oil thing, then I suggest you look at Holocuren’s Propolis Toothpaste and Tropical Resilience lotion, two other products from the line that harness the power of TTO and Propolis.

Unfortunately, I do suffer from cold sores from time to time and have never found anything that really “treats” them or makes them feel less irritating. I really appreciate your review, though, and want to try them out now! You seem to have had great results, so here’s hoping I will too 😀
