Colorescience is one of those brands that has impressed me over the years. I’ve vouched for several of their products on my platforms in previous years and was excited to see they added a new product line: Barrier Pro: a skincare duo that provides ultra-protective skin care health.

What does that mean exactly? Colorescience goes on to explain that that includes balancing the microbiome, improving hydration, and providing advanced antioxidant support through its cleanser and essential moisturizer.

Seeing that this line is more on the luxury end, I really wanted to give it a try and see if it was really any different than the handful of choices I had at my fingertips. The duo costs over $100 so what would I get for that? (they can also be purchased separately.)

A 1-step cleanser that removes it all.

What was first appealing about this cleanser is that it emphasized 1 step. Some mineral sunscreen formulas can be a bit more stubborn to remove and I usually double cleanse any day I wear makeup and sunscreen. Could this really work in one step? We’ll see. Also eliminating the risk of over-washing and stripping the skin. I was in.

How was this cleanser to refine texture? That was one of the claims. It looks like thats done via a combination of ingredients. Pink Pomelo or Grapefuit extract offers gentle exfoliation while smoothing with calming ingredients like lactobacillus ferment. Prickly Pear cactus extract provides powerful antioxidants to defend against oxidative stress.

The cleanser is a thick glassy gel in a large pump bottle. The lather is fantastic. It’s low foaming so no worry of it running into your eyes. You can look in the mirror as you massage it it the skin. I love how it foamed, and it did in fact remove my sunscreen and makeup in one try.

This cleanser is designed for all skin types (even oily and acneic). I can attend that it keeps my normal to dry skin comfortable and never tight. It does clean everything in one step and has an enjoyable foam. I’m not sure how much smoothing of the skin this will provide, but I do think it does a great job of cleansing the skin. I’ll continue to use it for only PM usage. (they recommend am/pm) but I only need a double cleanse in the evening so I will save it for that.

A moisturizer with a velvety finish.

Barrier Pro Essential Moisturizer Shop the product

The Barrier Pro Essential Cleanser is also designed for all skin types and meant for am and pm usage. In addition to promising immediate and lasting hydration for the skin, it helps strengthen the skin’s natural protective barrier and further helps gently refine texture.

In making the skin more balanced and calm, the complexion will appear smoother. Ingredients like Gogi berry extract, snow mushroom extract and lactobacillus ferment moisturize, brighten and promote collagen production in this near-final step in your skincare routine.

The moisturizer has a velvety finish that dries down invisible. It also has soft focus blurring technology which helps give you the appearance of a smoother canvas. There is no tackiness at all.

Being someone who enjoys a dewy finish it’ makes it not a first choice for me during daytime. It does feel nice on the skin, but I feel like my skin could benefit from something more rich. It’s Spring so my skin is transitioning from dry winter desert to less dry spring/summer weather. Perhaps this will be a better choice in the summer for me.

I am not sure I fully buy into the “refining texture” claims but I can see how these two products can greatly benefit those working on getting a healthy and balanced skin barrier. I would like one with a luminous or dewy finish since I feel that looks best on my skin.

Final Thoughts on Colorescience Barrier Pro

After a short time using these products, I would say that I would be interested in purchasing the cleanser again possibly. I’m not so sure about the moisturizers since there are ones I know I would reach for more. I think someone who prefers a natural/matte finish would like more. The moisturizer is an investment product at $76 so I would need to love it for that price.
