I have been totally obsessed with NYX cosmetics lately and have been trying out all their stuff with each 20-30% off sale email I receive. Along with a new Ulta popping up by my house in the last few months has made it really easy to see all their products and see what i can experiment with.
I have found four items that I love and use daily. I have a thing for bronzers already, but illuminators are new to me. I always thought they would make me look greasy but with proper application it can make your skin look really healthy and glow y.
My first favorite is the NYX Matte Bronzer in medium, which I think I can go one shade deeper if I wanted to, but this bronzer works perfect for contouring cheek bones, the sides of your forehead, and along the jawline. When you are contouring you don’t want to use a shimmer bronzer because shimmer catches light and highlights. You’re trying to create depth with shadows. I like to use any of the brushes you see below. The big one from eco tools works great for a big, soft sweep across the cheekbones, and into your hairline. It also works great for the neck and shoulders. I use the smaller one for a more chiseled cheekbone. I find the angle I want to create and shimmy the brush back and forth real tight and then sweep up and down to blend out the line. The conventional powder brush is great for allover ease of use. Can be used everywhere and makes it a multi-tasker.
NYX Tango with Bronzing Powder in Confessions of a Tanaholic is the newest item out of the bunch. Its definitely more on the shimmery side which I didn’t know before buying. For some reason I didn’t think it was going to be all shimmer colors but its all shimmer. I planned on using this on my face but it definitely became more of a body bronzer. The compact comes with a little brush which I only save for backup/travelling/worsecasescenariokindathing. While the powder does look very shimmery in the pan, it is NOT glittery. AT. ALL. It is a very soft, glow y shimmer in colors that blend very nicely together. I use this all over my neck, chest, shoulders, and down my arms. It is a GREAT all-over body bronzer. If I used this on my face it would be with a very light hand. I like to use the big eco tools brush with this product.
When I first bought NYX illuminators I wasn’t even sure how I was going to use them. I figured it would work well for the “C” I do around my eye brow and high cheekbone area. I would also plan to use this across the top of my forehead and down my nose. Anywhere I thought light would hit and bright my face. Initially, I bought the color Narcissistic which is a light peach with gold highlight shimmer in it. Not crazy shimmer. But buildable if you really wanted it. The powder is more on the hard side and takes a while to soften up with brush strokes. It works AWESOMELY well for forehead highlighting. Not to mention the brow bones. The other color I have is Chaotic and is a beautiful pink-mauve with light gold shimmer in it. It is so pretty in the pan!! I use this a full on cheek color. A light sweep in the pan is all thats needed to warm up the apples of your cheeks with this color. My skin looked healthy, glowy with this one added to the bunch. I would say the color swatches on the NYX website are pretty true in color to me. I really want all of the colors which TOTALLY isn’t necessary….but I get all weird and want it all after trying these two!
