It seems every year I get questions on which deodorant I’m using at the moment, or do I know of one that works. I often flip flop between antiperspirants and deodorants, usually because one will stop working or ruin my clothes. Lately, I’ve been using one from Saltair, a brand I discovered this year, and I believe it needs a shout-out on the blog.
About Saltair
Saltair is a newer sustainable body care brand. I previously bought their body serum washes and lotion and fell HARD after exploring the different offerings. Bodycare made with active skincare ingredients and nourishing exotic botanicals that not only treat the skin, but appeal to the senses. All of their products are cruelty-free, vegan, and gluten-free. Sustainability is in the foremind when it comes to their ingredient selection and product packaging. Each component is carefully thought out when it comes to terms of recyclability, and are always looking for more ways to improve.
I think a lot of the time, people like to try and switch over to deodorants from antiperspirants in hopes of using products with cleaner, non-irritating ingredients. Aluminum is one, and baking soda is another that people tend to have issues with. Instead of relying on those ingredients to curb odor and wetness, Saltair went a totally different route to make an effective deodorant. Let’s take a look at some of the key ingredients of their refillable deodorants.
Key Ingredients
- Zinc Ricinoleate – neutralizes and absorbs odors. Also found in deodorants from Necessarie and Kosas and Luluemon deodorants.
- Salicylic Acid (BHA) – exfoliates, brightens, and smooths the skin helping prevent ingrown hairs or darkening. Also helps with skin acidification which makes it a less desirable breeding ground for bacterial growth.
- Saccharomyces Ferment – a yeast ferment probiotic that’s packed with amino acids, vitamins, and minerals that help control odor while improving overall skin health.
- Ascophyllum Nodosum Extract – an antioxidant-packed seaweed that balances the moisture barrier of the skin.
- Laminaria Digitata Extract – brown algae that have the ability to rebalance and remineralize the skin.
- Tamanu Oil – restores the skin barrier while soothing the skin with its anti-inflammatory benefits.
I find that these deodorants work immediately for me? I don’t really go through a “detox” phase, sweating the funk out. The ingredients in these deodorants neutralize odor from the first application. With a few applications throughout the day, I feel confident and fresh.
Why They Are Different
I also like that these deodorant sticks aren’t super soft or sticky. They glide on smoothly and with zero residue left behind to ruin clothes – a big reason why I end up ditching other deodorants. I can’t afford to replace my entire wardrobe in the name of a healthy deodorant. I just can’t.
Best of all, this deodorant is refillable! The refills are super easy to pop in and out of the container and none of it will break the bank at $10-12. I think the fact that they are so easy to replace will make it easier for people to commit to the switch. I know when it starts getting too pricey or difficult to replace I move on. I just don’t have the energy for it all. So very reasonable option in terms of affordability, effectiveness, and sustainability.
My Favorite Choice
I really love pairing my deodorant with my body wash and lotion, Island Orchid in particular because it’s such a beautiful scent. But Saltair has several scent options (even fragrance-free) available for those who want something more lush or masculine compared to my floral favorite.
I fully intend on working my way through every scent option Saltair carries because I have enjoyed everything I’ve tried so far. At their price point, I would really love to see this brand become available in store somewhere. The “free shipping” threshold isn’t hard to meet on their website, but I just want more people to know about Saltair and fall in love with it as I did!
