Top Six Lip Treatments For Winter With IlikeToTalkBlog

And just like that, the season changed from ninety degrees to a crisp sixty degrees here in Orange County! (Insert laughter here). Yes, yes…I know that might not seem cold to those friends and family on the East coast who actually deal with snow at this point, but regardless, the temperature change does do a number on my skin and my lips always seem to be the first telling area. Tight, dry, cracked or peeling lips HURT and I don’t wish them upon anyone. I thought it was a great time to share some great lip treatments that will keep you comfortable this Fall and Winter.

But first, let’s go over just a few things that might be making your lip situation worse without you realizing it. First off, quit licking your lips. It may feel like a quick fix until you end up with that saliva burn that not only make it hurt more but looks pretty bad. Lip Licker’s Dermatitis is a real thing and I used to get it as a kid all the time. Train yourselves to stop!

Second, check out your toothpaste. For some reason, some brands cause more dryness around my mouth than others. When I’m very stressed out I get dermatitis around my mouth and certain toothpastes would make my face burn like crazy. I can’t recommend a specific one that will work for you, but I would suggest that you try some other brands you trust if you feel like your dried out lips aren’t going away.

Third, consider a humidifier for your home. We have one because all of us get very dry sinuses in our home. Putting some moisture back into that dry air in your home can help not only your dried out lips but also your skin.

But let’s get to the lip products because we want comfort, and we want it now! I’m sharing with you all treatments I have used myself and enjoy how the feel and the results they give me.

The Sweet Treat – Treat Beauty Lip Balm

I discovered this brand about three years back. Their jumbo lip balms have been raved about by Kandy Johnson and there is something ultra satisfying about gliding on this literally GINORMOUS lip balm that comes in a wide variety of fun flavors. These aren’t super glossy or shiny so having the balm apply slightly around your lips at the same time is not a bad thing at all. These balms will literally last you forever but you’ll still feel like you need ten of them. Treat Beauty makes their lip balms with organic ingredients like coconut oil, beeswax, cocoa butter and even organic flavoring and stevia extract for a sweet kick.  My advice? Get the Coconut or Marshmallow one. They’re amazing!

The Anti-Aging Peptide TreatmentDrunk Elephant Lippe Balm

The first thing I noticed with this balm was its larger circumference. I love a balm that covers my lips entirely and *slightly* around them. It just feels GOOD to apply and I know I’m getting full lip protection in one or two swipes. This moisturizing and plumping balm uses a generous blend of avocado, mongogo, cranberry and the antioxidant powerhouse marula oil to soften, smooth, the lips while peptides work on fine lines to keep them looking young and supple. The antioxidants don’t just stop there though — Vitamin C and Green Tea Leaf all work together to produce a luxurious feeling balm that you can’t get enough of. Drunk Elephant is a clean beauty brand you can find at Sephora. So go ahead…treat yoself, girl. You’ll want this!

The Clean, Green Choice – Farmacy Beauty Honey Butter Lip Balm

Looking for something that fits the “clean beauty” category? I’ve been a fan of just about everything Farmacy Beauty puts out, but I’m already on tube number three of their Honey Butter Lip Balm. Tube number two was swiped by my husband and I never saw it again. This stuff glides on is made from a proprietary honey blend that draws in moisture and antioxidants for the lips. Their formula includes Cupuacu Butter which is rich in phytosterols and polyphenols, helps increase moisture levels and help protect against environmental damage. Best of all, this opulent feeling lip balm is only $10 on their site. Get you some!

The Repairing Gloss –  Skin Actives Intense Lip Repair Treatment with Vitamin E

As one of the top beauty brands on Amazon, I was really into giving Skin Actives a try. Fellow bloggers have been talking about this brand for ages so it was no question that I should see if their Intense Lip Repair Treatment could fix my tight and dry lip problem. Application is different with this one as you apply with a wand, much like most lip glosses out there. It does have a bit of cooling action due to the peppermint oil so beware if you are sensitive — BUT, it also include pomegranate seed oil which is high in anti-inflammatories and absorbs quickly. In fact, it’s something I used to use solely on my lips when I had stress-induced dermatitis and didn’t know what else to use. This does have a glossy iridescent look to it so it’s great to use as part of a simple makeup look throughout the day. I sometimes layer it over their collagen treatment so it gives a double whammy for the lips.

The Ultimate Replenisher – Jafra Precious Protein Extra Care Balm

I have been slathering this multi-use balm quite often lately because it just feels SO good on! This emollient balm spreads on lips, elbows and my daughters dry skin patches with ease and has such a comforting feel to it. The soybean oil help lock in moisture while wheat proteins act as skin conditioners and strengtheners with vitamins D and E. I find this one especially helpful in the mornings when my face feels cold and dry before my workouts. If I had known about this when my daughter was a baby I would have kept one with her bathtime essentials since she had dry, sensitive skin from the start.

The Night time Repairer – Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

I think calling this one a mask definitely gives this product a more prestigious feel to it. Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask comes in a little jar with the cutest spatula which I have since lost in a move. While it appears rosy pink in the jar, it wont leave color on the lips and you CAN use it day or night. I find this to work really well and is completely non-sticky and doesn’t seem to end up all over my pillow cases. If you have really flaky lips, don’t peel, but rather slather this on and wake up to softer lips. The price tag is a bit steep at $20 for a little jar, but I’d honestly even spend $30 on this baby because it’s that good. The sleeping mask does include my favorite skincare ingredient, hyaluronic acid, for drawing hydration into the lips and locking in moisture and now comes in a Vanilla, and Apple Lime version which is very intriguing. Give this balm two nights and your lips will be transformed.
