It’s been really fun to branch out and try different types of makeup lately. Liquid shadows have been around forever, but I haven’t had much luck with them in the past.  I think because the ones I’ve tried years back were too thick and glittery, making them hard to work with. I like something I can make into a wash of color and also build-up for maximum coverage, and the new Pixi Beauty Eyelift Max Longwear Liquid Eyeshadows are fitting the bill so far.

Eyelift Max is available in six blendable shades that promise a long-lasting finish. If you prefer sheer options, one sweep across the lids can be blended out for a soft look, or you can go bold by layering for a more intense color payoff. Each shade is pearlized making them beautiful light-reflecting options to draw attention to the eyes.

The shades

  • Chiffon – cool, very light pearlized pink. Almost white pearl.
  • Sunset – pearlized peach
  • Amethyst – pearlized lilac
  • Copper – intense warm, pearlized copper
  • Olive  – pearlized golden brown
  • Mocha – pearlized bronze

Swatches below are 2 layers for intense color, or one sweep patted out into the skin.

The Formula

The formula feels very smooth to the touch. I can best describe it as a whipped paste that melts into the lids. No doubt, that smooth, silky, hydrating feel is due to the mango seed oil, avocado oil, and rosehip oil that work together to create a smooth, beautiful look on the eyes. I have hooded lids and have been prone to creasing with other formulas but not this one. I make sure to apply, pat gently where I want it, and allow it to dry before attempting other layers. I don’t bother with eye primer unless it’s already worked into my skincare routine or it’s a very important makeup day.

Did they last?

I was impressed by the long wear time of these liquid shadows. While I have worn Chiffon and Sunset on my lids all day, I also tested more shades by swatching my arm in the morning and seeing how they did by the end of the day. While there was some slight fading around the edges they all held up very well. In fact, the shade sunset stayed until the following morning somewhat even on the bendy, crinkly part of my wrist. So if you’re concerned if these will hold up — they seem to do very well in Arizona’s boiling hot Summers!

I do still have difficulty making an eye look with more than one shade. That’s when things get…..a little messy. Ha! There are so many queens of shading and blending eye shadows that I wish I could demonstrate like them, but liquid shadow is newer territory for me so it will take time. I did an experiment putting these over powder shadows and liked the color I was able to create by layering over a metallic! I wasn’t sure it would work, but it did! I imagine it works the other way around too!

  1. I really like the three lightest shades and feel that they’d work well as a base for powder shadows. It’s hard to use more than one cream shadow at a time and get good blending so I’d use them separately.

  2. I usually can’t wear liquid shadows because my eyelids are so darn dry, but with all the oils, these sound like they could work. Your swatches are very pretty. This look like summer daytime shadows that are well worth considering
