Have you tried liquid blush before? I had to think about it for a minute because I really thought I’d only used powder or cream. But after digging around my makeup cabinets I discovered I have tried liquid versions before, but was miserably bad at it and left it to be forgotten. Turns out that particular brand just didn’t work well for me. Sometimes you just have to shop around and try new things and discover something else that works better!
The Brand
I had never heard of Daniel Sandler Cosmetics before discovering them on Skinstore. I was intrigued with a Watercolor Liquid Cheek Colour value set they had available on the site just before the holidays and bought it on a whim curious to see how it would work for me. The colors looked gorgeous on the screen and figured I could pass them off if they didn’t end up working for me.
I originally purchased these as a value set on Skinstore, sadly they don’t have the set anymore — but the brand site does!
Application
Initial application of these were, well……very tricky. The Watercolor Liquid Cheek Colour blush is definitely the most “liquid-y” blush I’ve tried. It’s housed in a plastic squeezy dropper bottle that makes dispensing and storage easy. As long as I close them tight, I don’t expect them to dry out or spill at all!
The formula requires you to shake the bottle a bit before applying so you get an even color while applying and can almost look like a bi-phase formula if it’s been sitting around for a while.
When I say these products could last you a lifetime, I mean it! The amount of product needed to produce color is fantastic and makes the price worth the amount of product you get.
Best Tips
So when I use this, I shake the bottle a bit and only need to dispense 1-2 drops on my fingertip or back of my hand. I find that tapping it on with fingers FIRST is the way to go. I have tried applying it directly to my blusher brush and it just kind of disappears into the bristles. It also didn’t work well when I would dispense on the back of my hand and go for the brush immediately. It just soaks up the product and you’re left with nothing. So fingertips first!
If I feel the color isn’t bold enough I repeat the process until I reach the desired look, but I never put more than 1-2 drops at a time because it can dry quickly and waste the product. I usually do 1-2 layers of color, and then 1-2 layers of the watercolor highlighters where I want them. The brush I use is this one.
I find that this has a non-existent feel on the skin. It’s weightless compared to some other favorites I use in the cream blush category, but it makes sense since this one is very liquid and those aren’t.
I also find that this has pretty good staying power throughout the day. I may reapply lip gloss or lipstick throughout the day but would never bother reapplying blush. I mean, who has time for that? Well, not me. Ha! That’s for sure.
These blushes (and highlighters) are beautiful, and it makes me want to grab more colors when I can. I saw on their Instagram they offer sample sizes so that may be the way to go in deciding what colors to buy full-sized. They even have bronze, but honestly, I don’t think I’m good enough technique-wise to use a liquid bronzer. Right now I’m trying a bronzer contour stick from another brand and have been practicing all week so I can share it with you guys!
Final Thoughts
Overall, I’m very happy with this purchase. Sometimes you take a chance on a new brand and it ends up being a dud. In this case, it was a hit and it makes me want to try more. My only wish is that these were suitable for eyes too. Maybe they are? I’m not sure. I think I’ve heard that anything with red tones in it cannot be near eyes. But the watercolor highlighters look like they would serve up some eye brightening looks if it was allowed. I’ll have to read up on the safety of that.
If you want to give Daniel Sandler watercolor blush or illuminators a try, I found them available in a few places:
The blush looks very pretty on you! I use NARS liquid blush, and years ago, I used a liquid blush from Clinique. You are reminding me to dig out the NARS. I like the squeeze bottles, though, from the Daniel Sandler brand because they look easier to control and squeeze out just a drop. Plus the shades are lovely
yes! Thank goodness for a controllable squeeze bottle! lol. It helps prevent going way overboard. I think my biggest issue is just knowing exactly where to place the dots on my face. If you go too low it looks terrible. If you to high your basically putting blush near your eyes, haha. At least it’s easier than liquid eye liner though! I’ll never get the hang of that, haha
What intriguing blushes! I remember seeing this brand on the SkinStore website, but I didn’t look any further. Your swatches are beautiful, and so is the look you created!
I didn’t know Skinstore carried the brand or I’d have bought it. I wanted it a few years ago but it was only international so I surpressed my want. Now you have it started again. Sample sizes would be ideal since I have an incredible amount of blush already.
