I know I can’t be the only one who wants to look put together but with very little effort some days. While I love an opportunity to look “done up”, there are definitely days when I just don’t want to look sickly and tired, and that’s where two products from RMS Beauty come in.

About RMS Beauty

RMS Beauty appeals to my minimalist side. Most products are multi-task and simple to use. It’s also considered a “clean” brand that states they focus on using living ingredients (to them that means, raw, food-grade, organic and/or wildcrafted). I’m not sure how that means “living, but okay. I’ll roll with it. RMS beauty is also free of sulfates, phthalates, talc, synthetic fragrances,  and is cruelty-free.  Everything is also gluten-free except the mascara.

I like the idea of products that minimize the use of questionable ingredients. I try to choose wisely where I can!

The Concealer

I’m going to start off with my favorite product of the two, the “un” cover up concealer. It’s described as a concealer and foundation that can self-adjust to your skin tone and offers buildable coverage. I disagree that you can use this as a foundation. I mean, it’s the size of a lip balm pot and the texture of the product would make it difficult to apply to all or most of your face. So let’s call it what it is, a cream concealer.

“Un” cover up is available in 16 shades and I got shade 22, which is suggested for light-medium skin tones with a yellow base. I consider myself a light-medium neutral, but of the other choices this looked the best and I was correct in my choice.

I truly enjoy the natural finish of this concealer. You can apply it with a brush, but I mainly use my fingers for application and buff out with a brush where needed. I also like that it goes on “thin” and I don’t find myself blotting under my eyes in my creases.  It really blends into the skin well and vanishes. The product is stiff in the pot but warms under your fingertips to grab just enough for very thin layering.

I have hooded lids and I’m seeing the droop more near the inner corners. Even with that looser skin, I find it’s easy to blend this concealer from my under eye, to the inner corners of my eye, and up towards the lids. It’s a true natural finish, but I think an invisible finish would better describe it! It just becomes your skin!

If you have very dark under eyes or blemishes to cover, I’m not sure this will be for you, but I like how it awakens my eyes, takes very little time to apply, and doesn’t require any tools. I tend to apply my makeup around 9-10 am and wash off around 5-6 pm and find that it stays put pretty well enough for me to feel awake and put together till cleansing time.

The Mascara

I’m going to start right off by saying this is NOT my favorite mascara but does continue to stay in rotation of the ones I use. I have basically sworn my love for Beautycounter’s Think Big Mascara because it makes a dramatic difference in how my lashes look. I was never easily swayed by most mascaras which is why I stuck to budget brands prior, but now I’ve found some really good ones worth their price tag.

RMS Beauty Straight Up Volumizing Mascara is a good choice if you like natural-looking lashes without any clump. When I use this, my lashes are darkened, lifted, and defined, but I don’t see this as volumizing. I think if you want to go with a no makeup/ minimalist makeup look this is a great choice though. It’s a your-lashes-but-better option.

Also, it has a scent of rosewater to me but I couldn’t figure out why. I notice it when applying the mascara and the wand gets near my face. It’s not a bad smell. But it definitely took some time staring at the ingredient list to figure out what it’s coming from. They use Portulaca Grandiflora Extract (also known as moss rose) and some googling explained that plant does have an “old rose” smell to it.   Again, not cloying, but noticeable. It dissipates after the mascara dries.

I myself have normal to dry skin so I rarely deal with as much smudging as my oily-skinned friends do. I don’t notice any flakes or smudges at the end of the day which is plus, and I also like that they make this mascara available in travel size because it’s a good way to try before buying a full size.

I wish more brands did this with their products!

    • The mascara is easier to remove than my beautycounter one, but has less va-va-voom to it! So this is a good one if you want your lashes defined and darkened but don’t care so much about volume and length. The beautycounter one does it all, lengthens, volumizes and makes a huge difference. The draw back to my beautycounter one is that it’s the hardest mascara to take off!
