It doesn’t matter the time of the year, living in the desert means dry skin year-round. If my nails aren’t done, my cuticles are almost always snagged, and I deal with chapped lips more than I would like. And let’s not forget the occasional rough elbows. Ugh. Living in a very dry climate makes you feel older sometimes when you see how much product you need to feel hydrated and moisturized! LOL So it means having a plethora of lotions, creams, and oils in my possession to coat myself with religiously.

Drunk Elephant recently released a new product to address dry skin woes and that’s their Wonderwild Miracle Butter. While new, it still feels familiar because it’s Marula-based and they are known for their Virgin Marula Oil product, but unique because it’s in a butter/salve form.

I got excited when I saw the email come through about this product because I’m a fan of their virgin marula oil. It has a very light texture to it and never feels heavy on the skin. I was confident this miracle butter was going to feel nice to the touch too.

The Ingredients

Wonderwild Miracle Butter is described as a marula butter but it includes a variety of nourishing ingredients that will help soothe, heal and support a healthy skin barrier. Marula oil is praised for being anti-inflammatory, high in antioxidants and fatty acids, while remaining a fairly lightweight emollient. It’s non-comedogenic, and enhances the penetration of other actives you may be using on your skin.

But Drunk Elephant didn’t want to stop there — they added quite an impressive list to create an ultra-nourishing treatment for the skin.

Marula Oil is the first thing seen on the ingredient list, but Wonderwild also includes:

  • Coconut Oil
  • Pumpkin Seed Oil
  • Shea Butter
  • Mango Seed Butter
  • Camellia oil
  • Rose Hip Oil
  • Kukui Nut Oil
  • Jojoba Seed Oil
  • Meadowfoam Seed Oil
  • Rice Bran Oil
  • Avocado Oil
  • Grapeseed Oil
  • And some less exciting ones like vegetable oil sunflower seed wax.

When I look at this list I see a variety of oils I have used over the years on their own and have enjoyed. Some offer more antioxidant power while some others are considered soothers, hydrators, anti-inflammatories, or skin softeners.

How To Use

I personally need this product for my hands the most. I don’t know why, but if I don’t have nail polish or dip on, my cuticles are a total wreck from the gym. Chalk helps me grip things when I am working out, but it sucks any moisture out leaving my hands sore, cracked, and sometimes ripped.

I also like to use this for my lips and appreciate that it’s not scented or flavored. Sometimes products without any fragrance or flavor can smell “natural” and sometimes natural can stink. Not this butter.

It’s also great for mixing a dab with your body lotion when you get out of the shower. Or coating your feet before putting socks on. Sometimes lotions just don’t cut it in the desert and adding something extra moisturizing like Wonderwild Miracle Butter can really transform the way things look when the barrier is strong and uncompromised.

I would happily use this on my face (think around the eyes, lips, cracks of the nose) when needed — I just haven’t had to use it for those things lately.

The butter comes in a smallish squeeze tube. You get two ounces which seems like not so much when you see the tube, but really you need the littlest amount for it to do the job. I’ve opened this on cool days (65 degrees) and on hotter days and can say it hasn’t turned into a mess, at least so far.

Product Details

The butter is white, odorless, and flavorless. It spreads with ease and I appreciate that I don’t feel little balls of shea butter hardened within the formula on cooler days. Sometimes products like this harden and the texture changes in a way that makes it feel less luxurious. This stays pretty consistent in texture and absorbs nicely.

Drunk Elephant stuck to its credo of avoiding the use of silicones, fragrances, and essential oils in its new product. They also kept it vegan and cruelty-free.

A 2 oz tube will run you $38 but will last you…..forever? LOL Maybe not forever, but these types of products are used more sparingly compared to lotions or moisturizers. I like that its smaller size would work well for my gym bag too. I think my hands need this more than anything else.

  1. You called my name when you said odorless and fragrance free. I just gave my sister a hand cream that had too much fragrance for me but now I know what can replace it.
