The skincare brand Versed has appeared on the blog a few times in the past year, and for a good reason. I really like most of the things I try! I was writing this after finishing up a bottle of this serum and went ahead and purchased another. What serum is this, you may be wondering. It’s Versed Auto Save Advanced Restoring Serum and it’s incredibly worthy of bringing it up again.
The last antioxidant serum that I absolutely swooned over was from Skinceuticals. If you’ve ever tried their C E Ferulic Acid serum you know what I’m talking about. I swear that is a magic potion that does things overnight. But the price? *cringe* Realistically, I cannot afford to purchase that several times over no matter how good it works at making my skin look fantastic. We all have budgets to stick to and that one was amazing, but the price doesn’t make it a sustainable purchase for me.
Antioxidants and Free Radicals
I’m a big fan of incorporating antioxidants into my skincare (and nutrition) because who doesn’t want to offer the cells in their body a little repair and protection against free radicals? Free radicals are unstable atoms that cause harm, illness, and aging in our bodies. They can come from normal metabolic processes in our bodies and stress, environmental pollutants, radiation, and even certain foods. By using antioxidants, we can dampen or stop the destruction free radicals have on our bodies so I think you’ll agree they are a vital proponent in anti-aging skincare.
Versed Auto Save Advanced Restoring Serum features four key ingredients, microalgae, phloretin, vitamin C, and Ferulic acid. Together, these ingredients address concerns regarding fine lines, tone and evenness.
Key Ingredients
A blend of microalgae (hydrolyzed Rhodophyceae extract [red algae], seawater, pullulan) effectively works to help keep the skin hydrated while toning and being a source of antioxidants.
Phloretin works to reduce hyperpigmentation and dullness. It can also enhance the delivery of other ingredients into the deeper layers of the skin.
And Ferulic Acid is like the antioxidant best friend that every skincare ingredient needs. It’s there to boost up the effects of OTHER antioxidants, and act as a shield rather than a reparative ingredient against damage, further helping fend off fine lines, dark spots, and other signs of aging. As a note, I read this should NOT be used at the same time as glycolic acid, lactic acid, or salicylic acid because it can mess with the pH.
Vitamin C is well known to help promote collagen production (think skin elasticity, laxity, and plumpness) and fend off discoloration by inhibiting melanin production.
Instructions
Versed instructs to use this as a daytime serum. I was using it at night sometimes but will probably just stick with daytime from now on since I know it may interfere with some of the acids I use in my nighttime routine.
Two pumps are all you need per use of this almost creamy light peachy-pink serum. I usually apply it with a hyaluronic acid serum (probably one of these three: Farmacy Filling Good, Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster, or Glow Recipe Dew Drops)and follow with sunscreen and foundation.
My Opinion
I find that this serum has a very light scent to it that I don’t believe is from fragrance. I see no signs of fragrance added to this product but if I smell the back of my hand where I applied the serum it almost smells like a clove spice or some sort. Maybe the rosemary extract? I’m not sure. But it’s a fleeting smell only when I pump and massage the product — after that, it’s gone.
My skin is always very happy when using this product and I plan to continue to buy it because of the results, the price tag, and what the brand stands for.
I do wish they could create a body serum with the same benefits. I think it would pack a one-two punch with their retinol body lotion when used on alternating days.
