There is nothing more exciting in the blogger world that having a must have item finally show up on your doorstep to review.  I had seen several other bloggers raving about Michael Todd’s Soniclear system and I wanted to find out for myself if it was really all that. I needed to step up my skin care game with a wedding just a few months away and clearer skin is always the goal I’m after.

The Michael Todd Soniclear system uses sonic wave technology to clean away dirt and makeup better than you can do with your hands alone, and can be used on both the face and body.  It features two different sized antimicrobial brush heads that are made specifically for different areas, and charges via a tabletop base that sits on your bathroom counter.  Because it’s completely waterproof, you can use it in the shower to give your body a deep down cleansing.

The brush features different levels that can be used for sensitive skin, normal skin, power cleanse, and the different body settings. Overall there are 6 levels (3 for face, 3 for body)  Over the course of three weeks I tend to alternate between sensitive skin and normal settings and use it about every other day.  I also have put the body brush to use while in the shower and baths to give my back and legs a good exfoliation & cleansing session.  The timer on the brush gives your face the perfect amount of cleansing and it lets you know when to move to the next area and avoid over-cleansing one specific area of your face. When using the body brush it gives you a full three minutes to scrub down

I have used other sonic-type brushes before and had trouble with irritation after a while.  It didn’t matter which brush heads I used, I always ended up with almost burn-like redness around my cheekbones that made me eventually steer clear of using them.  Luckily, after using the Soniclear for three weeks, I don’t have any irritation issues. I remember the first time I used it I was amazed at how smooth my skin felt and how I immediately went on Instagram to share.

I found this did a good job at polishing my legs with my favorite bath gel and helped clear up that upper center area of your back that sometimes gets a breakout here or there due to heavy conditioners or sweat from working out. I just tied my hair up in the bath and ran the brush all over my neck, chest and upper back a few times and the little break-outs I had cleared within the week. My body pouf couldn’t do that! I see they have a handle extension which would make all of this much easier so I may need to invest in that down the road.

I’m really happy the brush heads are antimicrobial because the last you need is a sonic cleansing brush pushing nasty bacteria back into the skin.  I always make sure to take apart my brush and dry all the parts for safe measure.  It’s also so the charging base doesn’t get gross and gunky which happens if you let it sit there with water still on it–which is the only drawback to this system that I find – the large charging base and having to take the brush apart after use. I’d like something that doesn’t take up as much space in my bathroom, but hey, it works great so I’ll deal with it. I can’t comment too much on the charge life since I usually keep the brush sitting in the charging base, but  last week I did have the thing unplugged and it still managed to get through the week of cleansing without dying out on me.  The booklet also says you can use the device for up to 35 minutes straight which is a LONG time and definitely gives you enough time for face and body.

You can get the Soniclear for a fairly decent price (compared to other sonic systems out there) and I have seen Michael Todd have sales that drastically cut the price down – I encourage you to follow them on facebook so you can see when they have sales.

Have you tried the Michael Todd Soniclear System?  What are your thoughts?  I;d like to hear more from people who have acne and use the brush and what cleansers they couple with it for the best results!
